Melissa Rivers Will Join Fashion Police

Melissa Rivers is set to join Fashion Police, which will return to E! this August!

According to Variety, Melissa will join Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski on the show. Melissa is taking the seat of her late mother, Joan Rivers, while still managing her same executive producer role. There will also be a new format which includes two rotating chairs, featuring two different celebrity guests with the hosts every episode.

“As an executive producer since the beginning, Melissa helped shape ‘Fashion Police’ into an iconic TV series that couples fashion with comedy,” said Jeff Olde, exec VP of programming and development for E!. “We are pleased to now also feature Melissa in front of the ‘Fashion Police’ cameras, as she joins returning panelists Giuliana and Brad. And with the added flavor of rotating panelists, the show will deliver fresh, different and unpredictable fashion reviews with each new episode.”

Melissa said of the new role, “I’m very excited to be given the opportunity to continue to work with my E! and ‘Fashion Police’ family.”

Clearly the show has gone through its share of trials since Joan's passing in September 2014. Kelly Osbourne left the show in February after Giuliana made a controversial remark about singer/actress Zendaya's dreadlocks at an award show, saying she look like she "smells like patchouli oil or weed. Of course many fired back, including Zendaya herself. Kathy Griffin, who had stepped in after Joan passed, quit soon after, only having filmed seven episodes. The show then went into hiatus while execs figured out next steps.

Well, I guess this is the next step. I had a feeling that Melissa would be asked on. Personally, I don't think it will ever be the same since Joan is gone. That's a rare comedic legend. However, I wish Melissa the best of luck in the new role.

The series will return August 31 as the hosts cover the MTV Video Music Awards, and will run for six episodes through the end of the year.
