Today, we are honored to premiere artist Mosliano's new song "DFW!"The song itself is about truly living in the moment with someone, and not getting caught up in their past or even looking too far into the future. It's all about enjoying the time you have with him or her right now.
Mosliano admitted that it took a while to actually finish this song, not really having any type of inspiration. He received the beat back in 2013 from producer Sheikh Beatz, but didn't actually do anything with it until summer 2014. He ended up writing the chorus and a part of a verse, but struggled to finish because he didn't have any type of inspiration. "It wasn't until the beginning of this year, when an amazing woman came into my life at the right time, that I was able to finish," Mosliano stated. "We connected on a different level so quickly that writing the two verses came effortlessly." He created "DFW" as a conversational piece, talking directly to this special woman in his life.

My fellow Moonz are so talented and inspirational, I promise you! Check out this new project from poet Jah' Bless entitled Balladry!Combining his love of music with his great poetry, Jah' Bless came up with a great project in Balladry, choosing the name because the project is spoken word set to music, with each piece having something moving to say. "My inspiration behind this project was purely based on the need to escape a fear I had," he said. "I wanted to do this project to challenge myself in a way I haven't before." The poet already had material prepared, but the recording process was new to him. However, he was able to get all the instrumentals together and figure out recording over them himself.

His favorite track (and one of mine too!) is "The Children," which uses singer Jaheim's song "Fabulous." Jah' Bless said, "It's a beautiful song and the poem just fits," he said. "My future career will be a counselor or mentor anyway. I plan on helping our youth, hopefully saving as many of them as I can."
Overall, the poet hopes that listeners take in the positive and impacting messages, and apply it towards their own lives. "I did it for the poets all around the world, as well [as] the individuals...that aspire for dreams that people mock and say can't be reality," Jah' said. "Be expecting to hear more from Jah' Bless because this is just the beginning."

It's no secret how much I love and admire Wale. Literally, all you have to do is search his name on this blog!
I wanted to share a song from one of my fellow Moonz, Jane Oranika! She creatively and seamlessly put together a great blend of Wale's songs throughout his career entitled "Evolution of Wale (Vol. 1)". On the track, Jane sings snippets of Wale's biggest hits and some of his lesser known music as well, including "Letter," "90210," "Chillin," "LoveHate Thing," "Girls On Drugs," "Sabatage," "Bad," and more! Too many to even try to name, but it's amazing how she brought them all together for this track! It's already circulating social media, and it even got love from Wale himself!

I LOVE this girl's voice and creativity! Beyond just being a great singer, she's a talented composer and songwriter with great passion for music and real messages to share. I recently heard her sing live, and it moved me to tears. I truly believe that she will go far, and I'm excited to see her journey!

Starting out the week with another spotlight! Today on The Spotlight, we have rapper Mosliano! Born and raised in the Bronx, he began writing lyrics in the fourth grade. Eventually, the artist moved to the Phillipines in 2007, where he lived until 2010, and began actually recording music there. "A friend of mine asked me if I wanted to record one day," Mosliano stated. "I took him on his offer, and ever since then it's been something that I've wanted to do." In January 2015, the rapper made the decision to leave college to pursue his craft full time.
Growing up, Mosliano listened to artists like the Diplomats, the Heatmakerz, Jay-Z, and Kanye West, who were all able to use old school samples creatively in their music, which is part of what you hear in Mosliano's sound as well. "It may not be in the same vein as how they did it back then," he said. "But it’s just something about the feeling you get when you hear certain samples flipped a certain way that does something to me." In addition to these artists, Mosliano is also inspired by Wale, Drake Static Major, and The-Dream, who have all had a heavy impact on his music and business ventures.
Currently, the artist is working on his project, Moments. Though he is still thinking about whether it will be an EP or mixtape, he doesn't want to get caught up in titles or anything. "I’m just working on a great body of work for people to enjoy," he admitted. "I’m also trying to do a 10-15 minute short film to go along with the project, so we’ll see how that plays out."
Mosliano feels like there are several things that separates him from other artists, from his work ethic to his songwriting to his catchy flow. "We live in an era where instant gratification is at an all time high. Majority of the audience has a short attention span," the artist said of the current state of the industry. "They want whats new, what’s hot, what’s catchy. I feel that I have replay value. Not only am I blending melodies with raps, but I am also playing with different flows." The artist prides himself greatly on his songwriting and his flow. In terms of his future in the entertainment industry, Mosliano kept it simple. "I just want to take this as far as I can take it," the artist admitted. "I refuse to limit myself to just music. I want to create."

Today, I’m happy to feature one of my fellow Moonz (aka strong supporters of Wale and each other!), poet Christian Richardson! Christian started writing poetry in his senior year of high school back in 2007, with his first poem being a love poem to a girl he was “foolishly in love with,” he joked. “We were not communicating at the time, so I wrote her a letter instead.” Poetry soon became a way for him to truly open up about his feelings and emotions about his life circumstances.
The poet honestly stated that his upbringing made him resentful and angry, and he internalized a lot of his emotions. However, writing gave him an outlet. “I didn’t really know how to express myself any other way,” Christian admitted. “I couldn’t articulate my emotions clearly and lucid so I indulged myself a lot more in to writing my emotions down instead of talking about them.” I personally know that feeling so well! Regardless of what you write about, many writers, or at least the ones I know, often struggle to express themselves verbally, and can sometimes hold their emotions in. However, writing is always a freeing release. I know that for myself. Christian personally uses those emotions in his performances.
Christian knew that poetry was something that he wanted to seriously pursue once he graduated from college. In school, he continued to write constantly, but was focused more on graduating as well as fraternity life, which kept him away from pursuing a career as a poet full time. Though even now he has a 9 to 5, he spends the rest of his time writing and practicing for performances, with the goal of eventually becoming a full-time traveling poet and motivational speaker.
Inspired by friends in the poetry scene Greg Long (aka Tripp Fontane) and Amber Steele (aka Poetic Am), Christian uses his gift for writing and spoken word in a powerful way! Two outstanding pieces he shared with me are “Venting” and “Black Man, White Cop,” which you can view below!
“Venting” showcases Christian speaking about his own personal issues as well as his issues with society. “I talked a lot about insecurities, my dissatisfaction with the amount of debt people accumulate after college and how sometimes we buy in to that ‘American fantasy,’ (I can’t even call it American dream) that things are all gravy if we get a degree,” he said. He says in first line, “I find comfort in low fat yogurts, and 50 calorie pita chips” which he said was basically a stab at society’s constant push for perfection. “We are never skinny enough, or have enough muscle to be that ideal person people want and accept. And it definitely gets deeper throughout.”
In the second piece, “Black Man, White Cop,” Christian took on the role of current cases of police brutality and racism with black men including Trayvon Martin and Eric Garner. “Those particular cases and verdicts actually made me feel something,” he disclosed. “When I heard the verdict of Eric Garner case, I’ll never forget, I was in my car sitting in Chipotle parking lot and I just broke into tears. Like any of those cases that could have been me. And I really questioned my value to the world as a Black male today.”
In the future, Christian would like to travel around the world and perform his poetry. “I don’t even want to be rich for real, just enough to maintain and do what I love,” he said. “See the world, gain perspective, write and perform the rest of my life away. That’s all I really want for real.”

Happy New Year everybody!!!! Can't believe it's 2015! Wishing you all much love and success in the new year!
Last night, I started 2015 by seeing my favorite rapper perform. Wale KILLED it on his first stop of the Simply Nothing Tour at the Fillmore Silver Spring. The rapper featured Fat Trel and Sl*tty Boyz in the show as well, and the DMV really came out to support him. I was happy to finally catch him on New Year's Day!
This is my fourth time now seeing Wale, and it's always like the very first time. I still get as hyped as I did that very first time I saw him at Towson University some years back. He's a true artist, always wanting to connect and reach the people, and that has never changed. I see the growth not only in his fans, but in his music. I respect him and admire him honestly, which is why I go to shows whenever I can and tweet and post pics, and all that I do. I'm a very proud Moon always!
