Last night was the 2015 BET Awards, and it was definitely a great show! This year marked the 15th anniversary of the awards as well. During the pre-show, hosted by Terrence J and La La Anthony, we got to see some retro moments from the shows over the years which was cool to see. We also saw stars hit the red carpet and the style suite, as well as performances from MGK, Natalie Rose, Jeremih, and others. I really only watch the pre-show to check out the interviewers' skills, to be honest, but it was a decent prelude to the actual show.

Check out the rest of my review below!

Kendrick Lamar opened the show with "Alright," and it was a great choice! With the#BlackLivesMatter movement continuing to make headlines,Kendrick's stage layout was like a legit riot and march complete with many dancers, a huge American flag, and a tagged police car. The song is intense but still uplifting, and it was definitely a powerful start to the show.

The show itself was hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, who star together on the hit ABC show Black-ish. Anthony and Tracee came out with their own crazy remake of Estelle's "Conqueror," cracking jokes at Rachel Dolezal, Usher, and others and getting laughs from the audience. Both wore leotards (Anthony needs not ever do that again!), and Tracee was hoisted into the air doing little tricks that were funny but still cool to watch.

Laverne Cox and Gabrielle Union presented the first award of the night, Best Actor, to Terrence Howard (Empire). Afterwards, Janelle Monae performed her latest song, "Yoga." Though this isn't my favorite song, The Electric Lady brought the energy per usual! Jidenna joined right after with his hit "Classic Man" as Janelle Monae danced alongside him. It was a very bold and good performance from both. After this performance, the stars of the upcoming movie, The Perfect Guy, Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut, and Michael Ealy, presented the Best Female Hip Hop Artist to, of course, Nicki Minaj, making this her SIXTH award in this category in a row. Not surprised at all. Though I still believe that Iggy should've won last year, Nicki has been making huge moves since then with her new album and videos. She deserved it this year, but I would love to see another female rapper beat her next year. We also got a special look at The Perfect Guy, which many of us have already seen trailers for. I'm excited for the movie, though I'm hoping it won't be a big let down.

The stars of The Game came out to announce the next award, and we got a special surprise from the show's former star Pooch Hall announcing that he and Tia Mowry will be back for the series finale of the show! They announced the winner of Best Male Hip Hop Artist which went to Kendrick Lamar. Of course, as a Moon, I wanted Wale to win, but I'm also realistic. Kendrick is more popular (and this is really a popularity contest), but he is a great lyricist as well.  Chris Brown then hit the stage, performing a snippet of his song  "Liquor" and then performing "Ayo" with Tyga. I still don't like that song, so I wasn't really paying attention to the performance. However, when Omarion joined Chris to perform "Post To Be", my head turned back to the TV. It would've been great to see Jhene Aiko as well, but it was still a good performance. Neither of their vocals weren't up to par completely, but the energy was definitely there! Already there is an Illuminati rumor going around with that pyramid setup they had, but I liked that performance.

During the commercial break, Tracee brought out her rap persona, TMurda, having a short battle Kevin Hart's own persona Chocolate Droppa! I wish she had brought that to the main stage, because I love TMurda! La La then brought out singer Avery Wilson for a Music Matters segment. It's always nice to upcoming artists on the show! The Weeknd performed a bit "Mood Music," which went into a duet of "Earned It" with Alicia Keys. I love the song, but HATED this duet. Both of their vocals were ALL over the place, which I, unfortunately, have come to expect from Alicia's live performances. However, I expected more from The Weeknd. Before Kelly Rowland presented the award for Best New Artist, Charlie Wilson surprised us with a little snippet of "Outstanding!" For the first time, all of the nominees were given a Samsung Galaxy, and the winner received a call! When the phone rang, the "nominee" was Anthony Anderson decked out in a costume, taking home the award for Sam Smith!

Boris Kudjoe and Nicole Ari Parker took a moment to spotlight Bivian Lee and his organization, Son of a Saint, in New Orleans, which is working to assist black boys through mentorship programs and classes on life skills. Donnie McClurkin then gave a small tribute to Andrae Crouch, who passed away earlier this year. singing "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power." The show's tiny gospel moment.

Then came the best performance of the show, the Bad Boy reunion!  Puff Daddy, Mase, 112, Faith Evans, the Lox and Lil Kim performing a medley of some of Bad Boy's biggest hits, including "I Need a Girl Part 2" "Love Like This," "Peaches and Cream" "Mo Money, Mo Problems," and "It's All About The Benjamins (Remix)." Pharrell also hit the stage, and there was a moment where only Biggie's voice played and a picture of him flashed across the screen in remembrance of him. The only thing that I did not like about this performance was French Montana stepping on that stage in that moment. I know he's signed to Bad Boy, but he didn't need to be there. To me, he was an unnecessary interruption to history, and it killed the vibe. However, the performance overall was AMAZING! I felt like I was reliving pieces of my childhood. I joke sometimes about the current Bad Boy curse (with artists coming on and quickly falling off), but Puff and his label really brought the TIMELESS hits back in the day. Honestly, this should've closed the show. Would've been so hype!

Afterwards, the kids of Black-ish and Silento came out to dance to Silento's hit "Watch Me," hitting those Whip and Nae Nae dance steps hard! Terrence J with a guest introduced another Music Matters artist, Andra Day, who I definitely plan to check out!

This year's Lifetime Achievement Award went to the legendary Smokey Robinson, with video John Legend, Aretha Franklin, Berry Gordy, and Janelle Monae. Tori Kelly gave a beautiful rendition of "Who's Loving You," and then Robin Thicke performed a soulful cover of "Ooh Baby Baby." Ne-Yo then hit the stage with "The Tears of a Clown." As Smokey accepted his award, he was so grateful for the accomplishments and strides made over the length of his career. Seeing Smokey speak openly to God about his talent and career, thanking different people, was so beautiful He also spoke to artists telling them truthfully to be humble and grateful for their gifts. "You didn't start this. You were not the first in line. You are not the end of the line, so don't be full of yourselves," he stated firmly. PREACH SMOKEY! The legendary singer/songwriter ended the tribute, singing "The Tracks of My Tears," "Cruisin'" and "My Girl." I would loved to see this tribute done with more artists, though. It seemed so short of a tribute, but then again, the show was already long enough. I noticed quite a few people on my Twitter timeline negatively commenting on Tori and Robin being chosen for the tribute because they're white. I couldn't care less about their color. Yes, I know that this is the BET Awards, but black people also listen to blue eyed soul. Hence the hype of Sam Smith, Tori, and Robin. We can listen to them and buy their music, but we can't let them have some shine too? Granted, I would loved to see other artists perform during that tribute, but the ones chosen are talented artists, regardless of color. The BET Awards have not in the least been "whitewashed." I need some of yall to go sit down somewhere.

After the tribute, Meek Mill, Chris Brown, and Nicki Minaj came on stage to perform Meek's new song, "All Eyes On You." I'm sorry, but this wasn't a performance-worthy song to me. Honestly, the only reason I think Meek was on that stage was because of Nicki. There had to have been a deal behind the scenes to make sure SHE was there. Monica and Keyshia Cole then presented the Centric Award to The Weeknd, who apparently left the award show for some reason, so they accepted on his behalf. Anthony and Tracee then came out like Luscious and Cookie Lyon from Empire, with Terrence Howard soon coming out to introduce his Empire family, Jussie Smollett, Serayah, and Yazz. The trio performed "No Apologies" "Drip Drop" and "You're So Beautiful," hit songs from the show. People were a little irked that these three performed, BUT Empire is a huge show that created some pretty good music. Also, all three of them are actually signed artists, so why shouldn't they perform? I loved seeing them on stage.

NBA legend Kenny Smith honored legendary sportscaster Stuart Scott, who passed away from cancer at the beginning of the year. Anthony Hamilton and Prince Royce performed Percy Sledge's "When A Man Loves A Woman," Ben E King's "Stand By Me" and B.B. King's "The Thrill Is Gone," paying tribute to these great legends who passed away this year. We also saw a collage of those killed in the recent Charleston shooting as well. Michael B. Jordan then led a tribute of those who have participated in the #BlackLivesMatter movement, showcases pictures from Ferguson, Baltimore, Cleveland, and other cities. Big Sean then performed "One Man Can Change The World," "Blessings," and "IDFWU," with E-40. I would've loved to hear more of "One Man Can Change The World," especially after the tributes, but oh well. I have to admit, this is Sean's biggest year of his career so far, so kudos to him.

BET chairman and CEO Debra Lee announced the winner of this year's Humanitarian Award, Tom Joyner, who has put in work for years in radio and education, giving away millions of dollars in scholarships over his years in the industry. He believes in education wholeheartedly, as well as voter registration, health awareness, and other issues facing the black community. He has given back to help others achieve their goals, and has done an amazing job. Well deserved Tom!

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis began the long-awaited tribute to Janet Jackson, who was awarded the first award for Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual! I wouldn't say I'm a Janet stan, but there is no denying the impact that she has had all over the world. Tinashe, Jason DeRulo and Ciara came out with dance tributes to a medley of Janet songs, which were cool. No singing, just dancing, which was perfect. I wish that Chris Brown had been a part. Not sure what happened behind the scenes but he definitely would've been a better pick than Jason. Then again, Chris was on the stage half of the show anyway, so maybe it was better to give somebody else a shot. I would've loved the tribute to be longer, but, again, there were time constraints. Maybe if we start cutting down some of these sub-par performances we can have better tributes...just saying BET! After the dances, Janet walked out calmly and applauded everyone for their work, and accepted her award, as parents Joe and Katherine Jackson watched from the audience. I kind of wanted her to perform, but just her being there was great! This is a perfect start to her new era, as she gets ready to release new music and go on tour!

Brooklyn Nets' Jarrett Jack presented the Fandemonium Award and Best Male R&B/Pop Artist to Chris Brown. Afterwards came a moment I was personally waiting for! K. Michelle performed her latest song "Hard To Do," with Tamar Braxton hitting the stage right after to sing her new song "If I Don't Have You." Tamar then apologized to K and they performed a duet of "If Only You Knew," bringing out Patti LaBelle herself! Yes, they ALL had pitch issues, BUT, after all this social media shade, I was just happy to see Tamar and K bury the hatchet and move forward. I hope that they record a song together in the future!

Zendaya and a contest winner announced the winner of the Viewers' Choice Award, Nicki Minaj feat. Drake and Chris Brown for "Only." Rihanna then gave a minute snippet of her song "BBHMM." I love Rihanna, but she could've given this during the pre-show, especially for how long this show was (Again, BET had an extra half hour allotted than in years past, and they STILL went over). Then again, I'm sure this was a deal for BET to get Rihanna there in the first place for mor raitings. The show ended with Fetty Wap, performing "Trap Queen," with Anthony and Tracee giving a signoff to end the show!

Overall, the show was VERY long, but I really enjoyed it! The Bad Boy reunion was definitely the biggest highlight, as well as the Smokey tribute. As with any show, there were its shares of hiccups and dull moments, and I really wish there had actually been more announcing of the awards live. However, it was definitely a great show to watch this year!

Did any of your favorite artists take home an award?
Time for my annual BET Awards review! I actually worked half the night to get it ready for the morning, but have a lot more to do before I leave for CANADA in a few days!

Of course, the night kicked off with the Pre-Show, which everyone always has playing in the background as they finish up some last minute things before the actual show starts. However, I actually watched mostly due to Adrienne Bailon who co-shosted with Shad Moss (formerly known as Bow Wow), Keshia Chante, and Lloyd Boston. As a blogger trying to get to the next level, I always like to watch people interview others, and their dynamics back and forth, and I thought Adrienne did a great job. Which is why I'll be watching The Real this fall!

Pharrell opened the show with "Come Get It Bae," but no Miley Cyrus folks! He then brought Missy Elliott who mixed "Pass That Dutch," with the song. It was great to see her pop up, and I'm hoping she comes back with more music soon. I, for one, was very glad that Pharrell didn't perform "Happy!" I really like the song, and give him his credit for killing it, but it's gone on long enough.

Chris Rock then came out with energy, cracking jokes! Everyone wants to make the Kevin Hart/Chris Rock comparison, but I say just let him be great and do his thing. And he did a great job! I can think of quite a few hosts that were lackluster in taking on the show, so Chris definitely did well.

Gabrielle Union and Regina Hall presented the award of Best New Artist to August Alsina. Personally, I would have rather seen Ariana Grande or Mack Wilds win, but whatever. His attitude really turns me off from his music, personally. I couldn't even take him seriously up there crying, not because I wouldn't give it to him crying for receiving a BET award (that's a big deal to many artists), but because it seemed fake to me. However, congrats to him, I guess. Lil Wayne then performed "Krazy," off his upcoming album, Carter V, as well as "Believe Me." I don't really listen to him much, but it was a pretty good performance.

Nick Cannon and Zendaya presented the award for Best Gospel Artist to Tamela Mann, who is an incredible gospel artist and seems like such a nice person! Eva Marcille and Terrence J presented the award for Best Actress to Lupita N'yongo for her role in 12 Years a Slave! John Legend performed "You and I (Nobody in the World)," which is so calming and beautiful, and then brought out Jhene Aiko who performed her hit, "The Worst," to an acoustic sound. This girl has had such a MAJOR come up over the recent years. She seemed nervous, but I truly believe her lyrics are what sets her apart from some of her other female counterparts in the game. Because I remember listening to her music when I was 11, 12, I can respect where she is now in her career!

Mike Tyson and Gary Owens presented the award to Best Male Hip Hop Artist to Drake, who Tyga came out to do his first for Chris Brown's "Loyal," with a special drum solo from Travis Barker. Chris did a little dancing, but he still has his jail/stress weight on him, so it wasn't the same. I like the weight on him some, but he needs to lean up a little to be able to get back to where he was. It was good to see him back, though! Chris, to me, is and always will be a talented artist, so I hope he does better with himself in the future.
wasn't there, but kudos to him. Weezy and

Chris Rock did a great segment, going out to a monster truck rally and asking white people questions about BET and the artists featured. It was definitely the funniest moment of the night!  Common presented one of the newest Music Matters artists, Gabi Wilson, who plays five instruments, and came out playing electric guitar and piano. So talented, and she's only 17! My only issue with BET and these artists is that I feel like they should give these artists their chance to really shine, not just featuring them for 30 seconds and cutting them off! I would rather see a few of them at maybe even the pre-show than some other artists! That would give them a chance to really showcase their music and skills! Just a though.

Usher then came out with a short medley with some of his great hits, and then went off into "Good Kisser," which is my song! It was one of the greatest performances of the night to me! He had so much energy, and the throwbacks like "You Don't Have To Call," "Confessions," and "U Remind Me," brought me back my childhood. So much fun!

Kerry Washington presenting the Video of the Year award, when Kevin Hart came out interrupting comedically with his character Oliver Pope! The Video of the Year was presented to Pharrell for "Happy," of course, but shout out to BeyoncĂ© to being nominated twice in the same category for "Partition" and "Drunk in Love!" Kevin Durant and Serena Williams also won the Subway Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.

Jennifer Hudson came out looking great performing "Walk It Out." The song hasn't caught on to me yet, but she looked great! She also performed a new song, "It's Your World," which was really fun and actually better than "Walk It Out," so it was great to see. DeSean Jackson and Boris Kudjoe, as well as Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge presented the award for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist to Pharrell! We also got a glimpse into the upcoming film Beyond The Lights, starring Nate Parker and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, which tells the story of a troubled singer who finds love and herself in the process. It looks like it'll be a great story!

Back to Chris Rock's shenanigans and jokes. He decides, to top Ellen at the Oscars passing out pizza, that it would be great to give out Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles! It was funny (though some found it stereotypical). Nicki Minaj then came out on a stopped motorcycle performing a bit of her first verse of "Chiraq," and then going into "Pills and Potions," with American Idol's Burnell Taylor. I love the song, but that Alice in Wonderland theme? Not so much. The video itself for the song is kind of weird too, so I guess it was only to be expected. The mushrooms and that Easter bunny was distracting, though.

Keyshia Cole presented the next Music Matters artist, Adrian Marcel, who will be touring with Keyshia this summer. Again, another great artist cut off too soon. Larenz Tate also shined the light on Denzel Thomas of Philadelphia and Chicago's Tim Cane, who have both made a huge impact in their cities with their individual initiatives. Always great to see that. Then August Alsina hit the stage performing "Kissin' On My Tattoos," and "I Luv This S**t" with an aerial silk acrobatic performer behind him. Trey Songz even came out and sang his part on the remix, I guess officially squashing that stupid beef between them, and then Chris Brown came back out too! Though I'm not a fan of August really, I will give it to him that he's a good singer, and I might even buy a few of his songs later. It was good to see all of them come together. Trey then went into his own set, performing "Nana."

Pharrell then presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to the honorary for the night, Lionel Richie for his solo work and work with the Commodores, selling over 100 million albums in his career. John Legend performed "Hello" and "Still." Ledisi then came out performing "Brick House," with a lot of energy and fun! Yolanda Adams also sang "Jesus Is Love," which was INCREDIBLE! Lionel accepted his award, giving some inspirational words to upcoming artists and to all of of us really, saying, "Soul is a feeling, not a color. Talent is a God-given gift, and not a category. And 'out of the box' is that magical place where true talent goes to live and thrive and breathe." After accepting his award, Lionel came out and performed himself, singing "Easy Like Sunday Morning," and "All Night Long," giving a great performance!

T.I. came out with Iggy Izalea performing "No Mediocre," and then Iggy went into "Fancy." I was just madChadrick Boseman then came out, giving the award to Best Group to Young Money (which was a mess, but I won't go there), and giving a first glance into Get On Up, the official biopic for James Brown! Shad Moss, Keshia Chante, and the Instastar winner, Rodney, presented the BET Viewers Choice Award to August Alsina for "I Luv This S**t," which I believe was somebody cheating personally. I can give credit where it's due, but there is NO WAY that, even if it did beat BeyoncĂ©'s "Drunk In Love," that it beat Pharrell's "Happy." Somebody rigged that some kind of way.
that Iggy's mike wasn't turned up, and made it seem like she was lip syncing.

BET then came out with a great surprise, doing a 90s flashback, reunited some great groups. Troop came out to perform "All I Do Is Think of You," Color Me Badd with "Sex You Up," and Silk with "Freak U!" It was fun!

In a special move, we reflected on how this summer marks the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The CEO of BET, Ms. Debra Lee, gave the Humanitarian Award to our ancestors for their labor and persistence, giving the physical award to Myrlie Evers-Williams, civil rights activist and widow of Medgar Evers. As she accepted the award and spoke, I had a powerful reflection. Just yesterday, my sister and I went down to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial (I've been, but she had never gone). We talked about the strength it took those people involved in the movement to fight for the rights we have today, and how we have to honor their legacy by being all that we can with dignity and grace. Many of us get that, but a good part of us don't. Phylicia Rashad gave an excellence speech, honoring Dr. Maya Angelou and Ruby Dee who we recently lost, as well as Bobby Womack and others in the past year that have passed on. Tyrese was going into a rendition of "If You Think You're Lonely Now," but  it was cut off.

Robin Thicke then came back with his song, "Forever Love," yet another desperate attempt to get Paula Patton back. Now, I don't know what actions he's doing behind the scenes to save his marriage, but it seems to me all of these public appearances and songs aren't going to cut it! He needs to actually PROVE that he's changing and can be the man that Paula wants. I'm sure she's used to him singing his heart out, and maybe that worked once upon a time (I would swoon too if a man sang to me!). But now, it's getting old.

Floyd Mayweather then presented the award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist to Nicki Minaj. NOW, I knew that Nicki was probably going to win, but it was nice to see Iggy Azalea nominated and know that she could've won, too. Then Nicki gets up on the stage, being overly dramatic, talking about how she writes her own music (throwing shade at maybe Iggy or some other rappers), and how won the award five years in a row. But let's be real Nicki. Literally for five years, I've been saying how you have been GIVEN this award EVERY. YEAR. The nominees every year have always been people no where close on her level, and no competition at all. That's like someone running uncontested in a race, and saying "Oh, look what I did!" I respect you as an artist, but humble yourself a little bit.

The night ended with a pre-recorded performance of "Partition" from Beyoncé with a special verse from Jay-Z from the On The Run tour! I literally got into a debate about it with my aunt. Point blank, BET did that for ratings and to keep people watching throughout the night. How do I know? Because half my timeline was so excited for it, and then was disappointed when they saw that it was a pre-recorded performance. I don't know how you DIDN'T know it would be pre-recorded. Bey and Jay JUST had a performance Saturday night in Cincinnati. Did you really think that they were flying to L.A. just to fly back out for the next performance?! Sure, BET could've done things differently, but that was THE NETWORK'S choice. And Bey and Jay STILL got paid. For a tape. I'm just saying.

Anyway, I had a good time watching, and an even better time interacting with people on Twitter, and looking at all the crazy memes! The show had its wack moments, but overall was pretty good! It's still my goal to be there one day, interviewing and working behind the scenes! I found out that a girl that used to go to my church was there working, and it motivated me all the more. During my vacation, I plan to refocus and figure out a plan to get to where I want to be. Always grateful for my progress, and now I'm ready to take it to another level!

Sound off on your opinions on the awards below!

Last night was the biggest night of the year for BET—the star-studded BET Awards 2013! Of course, I’ve been reviewing this show since I started The Spotlight, so, for the fifth time, here we go!

The pre-show, hosted by Angela Simmons and Bow Wow (they really did fire those other 106 & Park hosts, huh?), was simply the pre-show. Nothing bad. Nothing great either. You watch to see if your favorite artists will be interviewed or if you’ll see them on the red carpet. We saw stars like Mindless Behavior, J. Cole, Big Sean, Charlie Wilson, and power couples like Robin Thicke and Paula Patton, as well Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade. Tamar Braxton even took the first award for the night--the Centric Award for "Love and War!" And her post-baby body looks great! Congrats to her! The performances were nothing spectacular to me, mostly because I don’t listen to or know anybody who performed really. After a while, it all starts to sound the same, so I just waited for the show to begin.

Check out more about the BET Awards below!

Chris Brown opened up the show with the electric "Fine China," the smooth Aaliyah-assisted "Don't Think They Know," and "Love More" with Nicki Minaj. I could see that he’s been working on his vocals a little bit! It wasn’t the best opening, but it definitely got the show off to a good start! Chris Tucker, the host of the night, came out grooving with Ray Chew and the Ray Chew Orchestra. Of course, he cracked his jokes on everyone. Well everyone that he could, because half of everyone weren’t in the seats yet! Ehh, what can you do?

Best Male R&B/Pop Artist went to Miguel for his hot track "Adorn" and album Kaleidoscope Dream. I would have loved to see Justin Timberlake take it, but Miguel definitely has busted his butt this year, putting out great music, so good for him. Afterwards Robin Thicke rocked the stage, performing “Blurred Lines,” with Pharrell, and looking absolutely gorgeous!

Kendrick Lamar took the Best New Artist Award, only he didn’t physically accept it because he was back stage about to perform. Now, I’m not sure what was going on, but between commercials and another award acceptance, he definitely could’ve came out to snag his award real quick! After Gabrielle Douglas accepted her Young Stars Awardfor her amazing wins with the U.S. Olympic gymnastic team, Kendrick hit the stage, giving the crowd one of the best performances of the night! He rapped “m.A.A.D. City,” and then went into “Don’t Kill My Vibe,” with the legendary Erykah Badu. It was an AMAZING, soulful rendition, one that I said Kendrick needs to record and put on iTunes ASAP! And anybody who thought it was boring or unnecessary is crazy!

Later, Chris Tucker came out with his own little performance of Michael Jackson’s "Human Nature." Though I knew that he was probably going to talk about Michael since they were so close, it was a little weird because “Human Nature” is one of my favorite MJ songs, so it was just…weird. But I appreciate him sharing his memories.

Throughout the night, we saw performances from BET’s Music Matters artists, which stars like J.Coleand Melanie Fiona have been a part of. Singers Austin Brown and Curtis Fields (who showed the power of technology playing guitar on his iPhone!) took the stage. The only thing I hate about when the Music Matters artists perform, is that BET ALWAYS cuts them off! Let them have their moment to shine, so that people can see who they are and what they have to offer!

Later, a choir accompanied R. Kelly, singing a mix of some of his greatest hits and collaborations (a tad bit awkward with “Bump & Grind!). R. Kelly hit the stage singing a medley of  classics like "I Wish," "When A Woman's Fed Up,"  and "Ignition Remix.” Definitely wasn’t expect that, but it was cool. Moments later, La La Anthony and Meagan Good presented the award for Best Gospel to Mary Mary! The Subway Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year went to Lebron James and Gabrielle Douglas, as well.

Mariah Carey then hit the stage, singing her song “Beautiful” with Young Jeezy and Miguel. Miss Mariah was DEFINITELY lip syncing with all of her extra hand motions that we’ve come to know and expect, but she looked AMAZING doing it! The song went straight into Jeezy’s "RIP," which was a very awkward transition, but Jeezy still did a good job with it.

The cast of The Real Husbands of Hollywoodlater turnt up and presented Jamie Foxxwith the Best Actor award for his work in Django Unchained. Columbus Short took the time to promote Diane Latiker who has made an impact on her community of South Chicago with her Kids Off The Block foundation, as well as youth Joshua Williams who came up with Joshua's Foundation that feed and help thousands across this country. I always love these segments, because these are just regular people making an impact. It
goes to show you that you don’t have to be famous or rich to change people’s lives!

The cast of Best Man Holidaypresented the Best Female Hip Hop Artist to....who else...Nicki Minaj. It’s come to be expected. Though I don’t take anything away from the work that she’s done, I want a viable female hip hop artist to come out that will give her a run for her money! We also got an exclusive clip of Best Man Holiday, which actually looks like it will be good! I wasn’t sure about a sequel coming out almost 15 years later, but I can’t knock these black actors and actresses getting their money!

Later, Miguel performed "How Many Drinks" with Kendrick Lamar, keeping the audience on their feet as they wondered if he would attempt another disastrous jump. But he kept both feet on the ground, thank God! Taraji P. Henson and QuvenzhanĂ© Wallis  presented Kendrick Lamar with the Best Male Hip Hop Award, able to say his speech from before. He accepted so humbly and thanked GOD for all of his achievements thus far. I respect him as an artist for sure!

Presented by Justin Timberlake, Charlie Wilson was given the Lifetime Achievement Awardfor his career the Gap Band as well as his own solo career. The video featured clips from Monica, Snoop Dogg, Pharrell, and Steve Harvey. India Arie then sang "There Goes My Baby," and Jamie Foxx sang the Gap Band "Yearning For Your Love." He definitely messed up a good bit, but I still got love for him! Stevie Wonder came out with "Burn Rubber On Me" and killed! Of course, Charlie got up and sang "You Are,” as well "Beautiful" with Snoop. Justin even got on the mike with "Signs "and "You Dropped A Bomb on Me,” along with Pharrell. The performance ended with the whole crew and everybody in the audience jamming to "Outstanding." Congrats to Uncle Charlie for his well-deserved award! All of these years in the game, and he is still relevant! Amazing talent! Hands down, the best performance of the night!

Later, J Cole took the stage perfoming "Crooked Smile" and "Power Trip" with Miguel, before Miss Tamela Mann took us to church with "Take Me To The King." Afterwards, Ciara performed “I’m Out” with Nicki Minaj (the video premiered earlier that night), and “Body Party” which has officially grown on me! She got a little crazy with the vocals at the end, but she did a really good job! Ciara is definitely making a big comeback this year!

Best Collaboration went to A$AP Rocky for his hit "Problems" with Drake, Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz. Miss Debra Lee then presented the Humanitarian Award to Dwyane Wade for his work under his foundation Wade’s World. He thanked his family and (his words) “Miss Being Mary Jane herself, my beautiful black queen, Gabrielle Union.” It was so precious!

The show then took it to the Islands with a dancehall mix featuring Chaka Demurs and Pliers, Dawn Penn, Elephant Man, and all the rest of them folks on stage! It was a hot performance, and completely unexpected! Anything can happen, BET kept boasting. Later, Chris Brown took the Fandemonium Award for the fourth year in a row. Good for Team Breezy, but still shoutout to the Beyhive! Buzzzzz!!!
2 Chainz later hit the stage with his song "Feds Watching,” which went into "Problems" with A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar (Drake didn’t make it this year.) Drake later won the Coca Cola’s Viewer’s Choice Award for “Started at the Bottom,” which was presented by a little too eager fan! I don’t blame her for being excited, though.

The cast of The Game presented the last award for Best Movie to Think Like A Man, which was a little surprising with the success of Django Unchained. However, it did give the cast an opportunity to plug the sequel, so I can’t be mad at that. Janelle Monae closed the show with her song “Q.U.E.E.N” with Erykah Badu. Some might have called it a boring ending to the show, but I actually really liked it! Janelle brings a great energy, and definitely closed the show on a high note!

Overall, the show was pretty good! The performances were, for the most part, really awesome and entertaining. I definitely enjoyed watching and live tweeting with you al too!  One day, I’ll be there live with my media credentials and can REALLY report the business! Until next year!

What did you think of  the BET Awards 2013?

Every year since I started Spotlight, I have been recapping the BET Awards, giving my two cents on BET's biggest event of the year. So, of course, I had to keep up the tradition!

Last year's 2011 BET Awards, hosted by Kevin Hart, was pretty good, at least to me. I have come not to expect jaw-dropping amazing shows from BET, but they do good. This show was good too. Not amazing, but good. From the different performances to special appearances to the Whitney tribute, the show was good to watch. I have my negatives, of course, but the good ultimately outweighed the bad. Check out my review of the BET Awards 2012 below!

As always the pre-show kicked things off. Hosted by Rocsi and Terrence J (their last since they're leaving 106 & Park), along with Big Tigger and Tamar Braxton, we got to see celebs hit the red carpet, as well as different performances from artists who haven't quite reached the main stage (some for good reason). There were performances from MGK, the OMG Girlz, and others. It's just the pre-show, so I didn't pay too too much attention. I wasn't interested in most of the music, just the celebrities that the hosts talked to.

Common Centric Award BET Awards Pre ShowThe first award of the night, the Centric Award, was given to Common. There was also a premiere of Willow Smith's new video for her song, "I Am Me," which she said symbolizes who she is as a person and an artist, and how she doesn't look to others to validate her and her decisions. While I'm not feeling her overall look, she's experimenting with different styles and finding herself I guess, so all power to her.

Now on to the main show. Now, throughout the ENTIRE pre-show, they kept hyping up this opening performance, saying that it was one that we didn't want to miss. I figured it would be Kanye West and it was with the rest of GOOD Music. From the way they talked about it, I was expecting something MAJOR. "Mercy" is a good song, but the performance itself didn't get me hype like that. Kanye also performed "Too Cold," but again, it wasn't live to me.

Next, the show's host Samuel L. Jackson came out with his own mix to "Ni**as In Paris" with Spike Lee. Spike FREAKING Lee. They were a hot mess with that! And Spike, you don't ever get to say anything to Tyler Perry about coonery and buffoonery ever again, because that's exactly what you gave tonight. Sam, overall as a host, did not impress me. He's a legend in film, I felt like he was invisible the entire night. He wasn't memorable.

Meanwhile Best Group went to Jay-Z and Kanye for obvious reasons. Though I wasn't in love with the performance, their album was great. Usher then took the stage with "Climax." A little pitchy, but I love that song! Next, Taraji P. Henson announced Best Actor is Kevin Hart . Congrats to him! After,
it was announced that Serena Williams and Kevin Durant took Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year.

Next, Cedric the Entertainer announced Best New Artist which went to Big Sean who brought his mom out as his date, and shouted her out on stage.

BET had the gospel segment earlier than usual, with Amber Bullock, Yolanda Adams, Y'anna Crawley, and Jessica Reedy performing the gospel hit "You Brought the Sunshine." These ladies KILLED! Nothing like a gospel song! Afterwards, newlywed Meagan Good presented Best Male R&B Artist to Chris Brown, who kept his speech short, sweet, and to the point! Definitely was afraid that he was going to say something smart, especially with this diss track about Drake coming out, but he humbly accepted it and kept it moving.

After a performance from Charles Perry, a part of BET's Music Matters program, Nicki Minaj hit the stage with "Champion" and "Beez In The Trap." No "Starships." Guess she had to get hard since it is BET, but she did a good job. Then one of the greatest moments of the night for me as a fan was when Slaughterhouse announced the Best Collaboration Award which went to WALE AND MIGUEL for "Lotus Flower Bomb!" I've been a major fan since 2008, and I've seen him go higher and higher every year. For him to win a BET Award was a major moment in his career! Now of course, many said that he shouldn't have won, since BeyoncĂ© was nominated, and Jay and Kanye, among others. But people don't realize that even though I'm sure they're grateful to be recognized for their work, they no longer really need a BET Award to validate their careers! If they get it, they get it. If they don't, they don't.  So let my man have his moment!

The funniest part was when BET came back with the famous Real Husbands of Hollywood skit from last year! This year it featured Kevin Hart again, along with Faizon Love, Anthony Anderson, Fabolous, and Samuel L. Jackson. This was the funniest thing that Sam Jackson was a part of all night! And I found out that the skit is actually going to be a show on BET next spring!

After, LaLa Anthony presented Yolanda Adams the Best Gospel Artist Award, where Yolanda made a good point to tell all of the people in the room to "use their gift responsibly!" We were then blessed by a classic performance from D'Angelo, who killed it! Mindless Behavior and Mike Epps then presented Best Female R&B Artist to BeyoncĂ©!!! When BET slipped Mindless Behavior a terrible and tacky Lauryn Hill joke about her tax evasion charges, Bey quickly got that in check quickly and politely, saying that it was artists like her that are the reasons why she can be in R&B. Sometimes I want to hit whoever is in charge of the lines at these awards.

Kevin Hart did a little stand up, and presented Maybach Music, who performed Wale's "Bag Of Money" and Meek Mill's "Black Magic!"

After, Busta Rhymes presented Best Female Hip Hop Artist which of course, goes to Nicki Minaj. For the THIRD year in a row. Now, I'm not saying that the girl doesn't deserve an award. She is very talented, and, no matter if you like her or not, she is the biggest female rapper out right now. However, for the past three years, BET has been handing her this award and throwing in people who we haven't heard of, or haven't put out anything, JUST so this girl can get this award. She hasn't had viable competition. I want Missy, Eve, hell, Azealia Banks, and other people who get really make this award a competition rather than just a giveaway. I feel like I say this every year, so I'm done saying it, but I had to get that out.

Tyler Perry later presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Maze feat. Frankie Beverly whose career spans over four decades! Joe, Tyrese, and Faith Evans did a medley of the group's hits, and were amazing! Best performances of the night! Frankie and the band busted out with classics "We Are One" and "Before I Let Go." As I was watching everybody jam in the audience, I was thinking to myself, "Who is going to be getting lifetime achievement awards when I'm in my 40s?" We have some greats, but not enough. Not as many as in the decades before us. And artists coming after 2010? Slacking. Just my opinion.

After the performance, Kerry Washington and Jamie Foxx presented Video of the Year to Jay and Kanye for "Otis." We found out that apparently Jay was supposed to perform with the group, but he and Bey were held up in traffic, which is why they didn't walk the red carpet either. Kerry and Jamie also presented a clip of their new movie "D'Jango Unchained" which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson

Chris Brown, who did not get arrested for gun possession in spite of the rumors, performed "Don't Wake Me Up" and "Turn Up The Music." I was not feeling that spray paint on his body, but he sang live and danced. It wasn't his best performance, but it's Chris! I still love when he takes the stage.

The Humanitarian Award was presented to Rev. Al Sharpton presented by Debra Lee. We may joke about his finger wave or whatever, but he has definitely worked hard over the decades to stand against injustice throughout the country.

BET show photoThroughout the night, there were small tributes to legends like Donna Summer, Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beastie Boys, Etta James, and more who we lost since last year's Awards. The biggest one of the night--the tribute to Whitney Houston! It was amazing! Mariah Carey spoke on Whitney's vocals and performances, as well as their friend. Monica sang Whitney's hit from The Preacher's Wife, "I Love The Lord,' while Brandy hit the stage singing "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody". BET got it right. I said to myself, if Brandy and Monica aren't a part of this, as big a role as Whitney played in their lives, it would be a problem. But they got it right!  Her brother Gary Houston performed "Where You Are" and mother Cissy Houston sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water," and I had to break out tissue, especially when cameras flashed to Pat and Bobbi Kristina crying on each other's shoulders. The cast of Waiting To Exhale, Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon, and Loretta Devine, said a few words before Chaka Khan ripped the stage with "I'm Every Woman" which Whitney covered. It was a great tribute to me! As always, you can't please everybody, with many saying on Twitter that they wanted

Terrence J and Rocsi and a fan presented the Viewer's Choice Award to Mindless Behavior which was a shock and a half because they beat out Wale, Jay and Kanye, and Beyoncé. But I stick to what I said before. Jay, Kanye, and Bey are not pressed over a BET Award. So let the babies have it and feel on top of the world. Everybody wants that.

Brandy and Lauren London and announced that Lauryn is on The Game as it goes into its six season. I don't see the show without Melanie and Derwin, but get your paycheck Lauren. Still think this should be the last season, though. The pair announced Video Director of the Year went to BeyoncĂ© and Alan Ferguson (Solange's boyfriend).

Tyga performed with Cash Out for the final performance before going into his hit "Rack City" to end the night. The final award went to Chris Brown, who won the Fandemonium Award for the third year in a row! And thus, the end of the awards! Overall, it was a pretty good show. I had my issues, but BET did well. In my mind, no award will ever be worse than the 2009 one, so I've been pretty good with BET since. I liked this show...a lot of exciting moments! What did you think of the BET Awards 2012?

Haha here is the 3-part skit from the BET Awards that had everybody rolling, "Real Husbands of Hollywood," featuring Kevin Hart, Nelly, Jermaine Dupri, Bobby Brown, and Nick Cannon. The skit was a parody of top reality shows, "Basketball Wives" and "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," and the like. Even had a feature from Basketball Wife Tami Roman. Hands down, one of my favorite moments of the show last night. Definitely would LOVE if it could be a real show! Hey, Skank Robbers from BET Awards 2009 is going to be a movie. May as well! It was too funny! Check ll three videos after the jump! (Courtesy of Necole Bitchie)

Part 3

PEACE.

*SPOILER ALERT* This review covers all of the 2011 BET Awards!

Morning everyone! So last night was the 2011 BET Awards, the occasion of the year for the network. So of course, I had to do a review. I've been doing them since I started the blog in 2009, now that I think about it. Even though that was only two short years ago, it's become tradition for me to do these reviews. I'll probably throw in some of my favorite moments of the award show a bit later, along with fashion wins and SEVERAL EPIC LOSSES of the night haha!

Now the review is long, longer than usual I think (SO much to say!), so I've put things in bold, trying help out with navigation a bit if you want to skip around.

Read the full review after the jump!

As always, the show was preceded by a pre-show hosted by 106 & Park's Terrence and Rocsi. It opened up with a hot performance by Swizz Beatz and Eve of their song "Everyday (Coolin')". The opening event featured performances by Mindless Behavior with Tyga and Lil Twist, as well as Diggy Simmons (LOVE HIM!) and Lloyd, among others. Also, we saw the world premiere of the video DJ Khaled's "I'm on One," featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, and Rick Ross. It was honestly nothing special, so I didn't pay much attention honestly. Terrence and Rocsi were joined by correspondents Nick Cannon and that other woman whose name I'm blanking on right now (tell me who it was in the comments haha). We saw NY royalty Carmelo Anthony and LaLa looking absolutely beautiful, as well as Ne-Yo, Laz Alonso, Kelly Rowland, Wiz Khalifa, and so many more hitting the red carpet.

Now let me get into my issues. My #1 issue with the pre-show? KARMIN. Who I thought was just the girl, and not the name of the group. Never heard of them til tonight. I've been in Australia for four months, forgive me. Apparently they have been tearing up YouTube and World Star Hip Hop with their covers, and BET decided to have them grace the screen every 20 minutes or so at the pre-show. And I'm like, "Why?!" I was not impressed. My sister came to me and said, "Oh, you just don't like her because she's white." I said, "No, I don't like her because she's wack." Everytime they came on, I got angry. No more of that BET. One of my other main issues that I will just NOT let go, because she was just that messy, is Miss Laurie Ann Gibson. With that long sleeved see through shirt, and the strapless black bra, and the messy hair piece thinking she was cute. And the shameless plugs of her show, when she was asked why her black was beautiful. I just shook my head. Side Note: I will be watching. I still admire her choreography). However I was extremely disappointed with her outfit tonight. Haha I was stuck on that all night. I wanted Kevin Hart to go in on her! (We'll talk about the No-Man later!) While we're on fashion, Rocsi's dress wasn't all that either. It fit her well, but the design wasn't hitting. There were also a lot of awkward moments with timing with Terrence, Rocsi, Nick, and the other woman (swear I'm trying to find her name as I write up this post, failing miserably). Either celebrities were late or inside, or people just weren't on their jobs.

Anywho, overall the pre-show is how it always is. Just something to bide time, get you a little excited for the real show to come. Congrats to Miss Marsha Ambrosius, by the way, for winning the first award of the night on the carpet, the Centric Award. If yall don't have Late Nights and Early Mornings, YOU ARE MISSING OUT!

The BET Awards opened with Mary J. Blige hitting the stage with some of her classic hits, later joining up with legend Anita Baker for "Caught Up In The Rapture." Don't know what made BET go in this direction, but I loved it!

And then the man of the hour, the host, comedian Kevin Hart graced the stage. Performing with kid steppers/dancers, his opener was hot. And he started going in on EVERYBODY!!!! This is where the "No-Man" comes into play. Kevin told the audience that everybody has a yes-man now a days, people who never want to tell you the truth about yourself, just those who want to make sure you stay happy. Kevin invented the "No-Man," the one who will tell the truth! Proceeded to tell Fab to take those shades off inside, Trey Songz to keep his shirt on because he looks like a beige greyhound, getting on Neyo about that receding hairline haha! And what can I say about the Real Husbands of Hollywood!!! A direct parody of Basketball Wives, the Real Housewives of Atlanta, and all of the other wives reality shows, the skits featured Kevin, Jermaine Dupri, Nelly, Bobby Brown, and Nick Cannon. I just...I can't even describe how funny that was to me! For those who didn't see it, I will post videos of the skits later today, or YouTube it now and see if it's up.

The show started off right with Chris Brown winning the Male R&B Artist Award!!! Now the new YoungStars Award was a mess. Of course, Willow and Jaden Smith were nominated, Willow for her music, Jaden for his acting. Cute that brother and sister were up against each other. Not cute that BET had them both win. I hate ties. If I had to give it to just one, it would've been Jaden because of The Karate Kid. Props to Willow for being 10 and having a platinum single that I hear consistently in the clubs, but The Karate Kid grossed over $350 million!

And the Female Hip Hop Award. Ugh. Again a fluke to pull in favor of Nicki Minaj, just like last year. This year Nicki was up against Diamond (ain't seen her personally since the "My Chick Bad" remix), Lola Monroe (Unwritten and widely unknown rule of BET Awards: award nominations are based on ALBUM releases; all she's released so far are mixtapes), and some little girl named Cymphonique (Romeo's little sister). So of course, it was no surprise that Nicki won. Oh, well she was "surprised." "I can't believe I won." STOPPP! She couldn't even recover from that. BET needs to stop with that. I say, if there are no other real competitors for ANY award, that award needs to be cut. They cut the Female Hip Hop Award once upon a time because no female was really out doing anything. We all know Nicki is successful. Let her bask in that success, not with an award that she won by putting people who are not really relevant in the nomination basket.

How awesome was Jill Scott's performance featuring that fine piece of British chocolate Idris Elba?!! Jill looked absolutely amazing in that red dress, and the jazz club concept was perfect! Speaking of Idris, he won Best Actor, while Best Actress went to Taraji P. Henson. (Notice that a good number of awards weren't actually given out. Best Movie went to For Colored Girls, also.

After a performance from the Five Heartbeats and After 7, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the film, the Best Group award went to Diddy Dirty Money. Which I guess is the full name of the group. Glad BET cleared that up for me.

One of my most anticpated performances was Chris Brown, because he always kills. Wasn't necessarily feeling those pants he had on at the beginning or that onesie underneath haha, but he did well. Starting out with "She Ain't You," Chris Breezy's choreography was on point as always. And tell me Busta didn't kill when he came out for "Look At Me Now!" Finishing up with "Paper, Scissors, Rock, Breezy kept on killing in song and dance, and ended with a perfect backflip off the stage and into the crowd. He was mad winded as he stepped up to receive his award for Best Collaboration for "Look at Me Now," with Busta and Lil Wayne.

As half of the awards were given through captions, saw that Michael Vick and Serena Williams won for Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year. Congrats to them! Random side note that nobody probably cares about, did yall see Orlando Brown in the audience?! Where in the world has he been?! Haha it was good to see him.

Alicia Keys stepped out with her performance of "Typewriter," her classic hit, "A Woman's Worth," singing and jamming with Bruno Mars, as well as "Fallin,'" celebrating the 10 year anniversary re-release of her first album Songs in A Minor. As much as I love Alicia, that weave was NAP. PY. Several people just need to fire their stylists tonight.

The Barbz and Beliebers showdown was funny, with Nicki and Justin Bieber leading their packs. You know, Justin is really growing up. And trying to get at Nicki! And a few hours later the #justincanhandlecurves trending topic was created on Twitter haha! Get it boy!

The Male Hip Hop Award went to Kanye West. Deserved. Since I'm on Male Hip Hop, can I just say that I was really, REALLY hoping that with this signing onto Mayback Music, Wale could finally be seen! He couldn't get Best Collab for "No Hands?" Well no, I figured as much, but I mean, come on, a small little cameo on the stage with Rick Ross? A spot on the Red Carpet? Geez. When Big Sean came on later with Chris Brown, I was feeling like man, am I EVER going to get to see Wale grace the stage?! He better after this sophomore album! Sorry, personal spiel for my love haha.

Best New Artist went to Wiz Khalifa. No shock there. We then saw the long anticipated performances from Trey Songz and Kelly Rowland. Well anticipated for most. I like Trey, but he wasn't my top person to see. Take off your shirt, do a sex song, I know what to expect from him. Then Kelly hit the stage performing "Motivation." I can't lie, she did an absolutely AMAZING job! I like Kelly too. She's beautiful and she has a voice on her, and I think it's great that she's taking her game up some notches, trying to get from out of Beyoncé's shadow. Go her! HOWEVER, people need to stop acting like this ONE hit song makes her the top artist of all time. Twitter has just been blowing up, "Kelly's so much better than Beyoncé, Kelly's taking overblah blah blah." I'm not even writing from a fan point of view when I say this; it's just the truth. Check tour sales. Check record sales. Check awards. Kelly got A WHOLE LOT to do before she even reaches B's kneecaps. PERIOD. But she's on her way. Ok moving forward :-)

The Humanitarian Award was given to Steve Harvey for his work in the communities over the years. People may not like him as a comedian, or judge him for whatever, but I think he's a good dude. He stated a great quote that I tweeted. "I am who I am because God is who He is." Which is truth. Shoutout to him retweeting me tonight, and getting so many mentions/retweets to my phone! Thought it would never stop lol (I was pressed though!) Another side note on fashion: Debra Lee, you are the CEO for BET! I am SURE that you can afford to hire the best stylist you can find to finally get you a hot outfit for the show! She NEVER gets it right. Had this old maternity brown curtain looking umbrella dress on. She could do soooo much better.

After the Humanitarian Award, BET took it gospel, which is always weird because they place the gospel portion of the show right after they do the sexiest song imaginable. Not that Christians don't get down haha, but it just always feels awkward to me. However, I was blessed to hear the late gospel great Walter Hawkins' classic "Thank You," performed by Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary, and Deitrick Haddon. Mary Mary won for Best Gospel Album, as well. Love those ladies. Amazing voices, and their fashion and hair is always impeccable!

Miss Patti Labelle, honored by Gladys Knight won the Lifetime Achievement Award. The tribute was absolutely amazing! Cee-Lo stepped out as Patti herself with a full on spiky wig complete with hairspray singing, "Somebody Loves You." Marsha Ambrosius, the amazing vocalist that she is, killed with her rendition of "If Only You Knew." Pastor Shirley Caesar. Because she is a gospel legend, and my late grandmother would kill me if I spoke ill of Pastor Shirley in her presence, I will not discuss that dress. Pastor Caesar hit the stage with "You Are My Friend," singing directly to Patti. Miss Patti herself brought the house down with two of her hits, "Love, Need and Want You," and "Lady Marmalade."   SHE SLAUGHTERED! This was the best performance of the night in my opinion. Sorry "Motivation" lovers.

Then commenced tributes to M-Bone of Cali Swag District, Clarence Clemons, Nate Dogg, Gil Scott-Heron and Teena Marie, all stars that we have lost over the past year. It's crazy how many celebrities we have been losing lately. There was a performance by DJ Khaled, Drake, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne, assuming it to be that "I'm On One" song. Again, not really paying attention until I noticed Wayne skipping in those Fourth of July shorts. Wow.

The end of the show came from an earlier performance from my girl Beyoncé from the Glastonbury Music Festival in England. Shouting out BET, Beyoncé performed "Best Thing I Ever Had" as well as "End of Time," for her British audience earlier today, and the audience at the BET Awards watched on the teleprompter in the auditorium. Now I have to say that that's disappointing to have all those people watching a top performer on a screen instead of live. HOWEVER, it only shows how big B is that even though she wasn't going to be there (2nd year in a row by the way; unfortunately, I think she's over BET), BET still wanted a performance from her. Don't think they would do that for Kelendria, I'm just saying haha. I still got love for her though.

Now I'm going to talk about it. I saved it right for the end. I know that this review is long enough, but AIN'T NO WAY I'M NOT GONNA TALK ABOUT IT. That awkward, and downright FOUL presentation of a Viewers Choice Award. Now the two biggest nominations for the award were Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now," and Rihanna's "What's My Name?" featuring Drake. Figured that either one of them would win it. Terrence and Rocsi, per usual, came out with a winner from some obscure contest that I wouldn't know about since I don't watch BET all that much anymore. And of course, the girl, whose name is Tiffany Greene (you'll hear it over this coming week for sure), got to present the award. The girl tapped the tablet they were using to announce the winners, and announced Chris as the winner. HOWEVER, the teleprompter had it confused saying that Rihanna won, and Terrence proceeded to announce that "What's My Name?" was the real winner. Had Tiffany looking all confused, and had people thinking the girl didn't know how to read or something.

I knew the truth though. The truth being that someone being shady over at BET was still trying to perpetuate mess between Chris and Rihanna, and get the crowd thinking about the whole controversy when Chris had just gotten over that mistake. The girl OBVIOUSLY tapped the tablet like she was supposed to and read the winner that it said. Somebody set that girl up, and had her as one of the top TTs WORLDWIDE, poor girl! She even tweeted she was bawling backstage from embarassment. People have pictures of her face when the awards were switched up and everything (see left smh). Come to find out that Chris really did win, as Kevin announced at the end of the show on his mall cop Segway scooter. Not even getting started on the whole issue of Chris and Rihanna, but to do that to that girl, who was only there FOR ONE NIGHT, probably excited as ever, playing her like that was foul! Somebody over at BET needs to be fired for that one. Tiffany took to Twitter to go off herself! Good came out of it, though. She now has almost 23,000 followers haha!

All in all, pretty good Award Show! BET's doing pretty well. Definitely a good job picking Kevin Hart as host! He was INCREDIBLE as a host! Can yall keep him? Please! Oh, and can Real Husbands of Hollywood be a real show, for my entertainment? Haha I quite enjoyed myself, tweeting the whole time, and taking notes and whatnot. Of course, it wasn't perfect, but without the imperfections I wouldn't have be able to pull my WTF face, and go in like I do haha. One day, I will have my press pass. ONE DAY! For those who missed the show tonight, an encore presentation will be on at 8 p.m. ET on BET. For those who watched, what did yall think of the BET Awards this year?

PEACE.
