Marvel's Black Panther officially has a director!
According to Screen Rant, the chosen one to take on the movie is director Ryan Coogler! The 29-year-old director has already directed successful films Fruitvale Station and Creed, which both starred and have helped build the resume of Michael B. Jordan.
Marvel was also in talks with F. Gary Gray and Ava DuVernay as well for the director position before deciding on Coogler.
The head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, said this movie is important because "not only do you get an unbelievable lead character, but you also get all of Wakanda which is a whole new setting and culture to explore.” As Marvel's first stand-alone movie with a black superhero as its lead, it will be important to the franchise that the movie is a success. However, for fans of the Marvel franchise, he won't be their first black superhero lead as this year we'll also get Luke Cage on Netflix, who was also a featured character in last year's Jessica Jones.
