The Wiz Live!, a live remake of the Broadway version of The Wiz, aired on just hours ago on NBC, and EVERYONE is talking about it!

The cast was jam-packed with great talent including Elijah Kelley (Scarecrow), Ne-Yo (Tin Man), David Alan Grier (Cowardly Lion), Queen Latifah (The Wiz), Mary J. Blige (Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West), Uzo Aduba (Glinda, the Good Witch of the South), Amber Riley (Addaperle, the Good Witch of the North), Stephanie Mills (Aunt Em), Common (The Bouncer) and introducing Shanice Williams (Dorothy). Of course, we all know the story. It follows Dorothy who, after getting swept in a tornado, attempts to find the Wiz with new friends to make it back home. She, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion learn a lot about themselves during the journey. Of course, The Wiz has a lot more flavor than the original, and this live version stays true to that.

Of course, we know there were great expectations with this musical, seeing as The Wiz is considered a classic, especially in the black community. However, I watched it as if I was watching it for the very first time, because trying to compare would have sucked the fun out of it. With a star-studded cast, special effects, great choreography and music, vibrant costumes, and the fabulous Cirque du Soleil, The Wiz Live! truly shined. It was an incredible musical to watch at home, perfect for the family, and it left me so moved and inspired!

What I loved about this version of the musical is that it sticks to the original plot and feel of The Wiz, but still manages to include modern technology, slang, music, and even dances (I know y'all saw Ne-Yo with the Dab!). It was seamless combining the feel of both the original and new eras. The songs and choreography were awesome (shout out to choreographer Fatima Robinson). The sets and costumes were bright and beautiful, and the visual effects were great. And what can I say about the Cirque du Soleil performers and background singers?! They were such a great addition to this production.

The cast themselves had great chemistry!  Everyone shined in their moments on stage. Shanice, in her debut, held her own with these well-known talents, giving solid, clear vocals and showcasing her training in musical theater. I think she has a little bit more growing to do in the acting field, but she definitely made her mark tonight. Mary J. did pretty well, though, at times, I didn't believe her in her role as Evillene. It seemed a tad bit forced. Overall though, I enjoyed the cast

The music. I must talk about this music. Now, I've loved me some Amber since back when Glee first aired, and Elijah since his role as Seaweed in Hairspray, so I know their talent as singers.  Of course, Queen, Ne-Yo, and Mary can sing, and Stephanie Mills, who was Dorothy in the original play, is legend. They all did well. However, David's passion in his voice took me for a great surprise! He really stood out in this role, especially when he sang. But it was Uzo's version "Believe in Yourself, and Shanice's "Home," that BROUGHT DOWN THE HOUSE! I knew that Uzo was trained at Julliard and heard she could sing, but had just never heard her before. Her voice and appearance was stunning, and a complete 180 from her role as Crazy Eyes in Orange is the New Black. Shanice, as a newcomer, had something to prove, and she did so by closing the show with that classic song. Her vocals are pretty distinct, and, with her enunciation and tone, you can tell she was trained in the theater. She did a great job. Unfortunately, the soundtrack isn't available until December 11th (at least on iTunes), but you can preorder now.

The Wiz Live! boosted my spirits and gave me inspiration and motivation. I know that's probably odd to say about a musical, but there were so many great words of wisdom in the script as well that stuck with me. Plus, as a black woman, to see this entire production of black people giving their all on a stage was so beautiful to me. It really was watching black excellence. I was really proud.

I read on the New York Times website, that this play is a test run for a Broadway revival! From what I've read on social media, people loved it, so we're able to go see it in New York! I would definitely make that trip.

RATING: ★★★★ ½ (Four and a half stars)

Singer Ne-Yo has apparently taken legal action against former manager and friend Kevin Foster for a total of $8 million, according to NY Daily News.

Papers were filed in Manhattan Federal Court, with Ne-Yo (whose legal name is Shaffer Smith) stating that he met Foster back in 2005, and Kevin convinced him to let the accounting firm that Foster was working for at the time handle his “business management and accounting needs.” Foster's job was to manage the singer’s bank accounts, and "ensure Smith was financially situated as to maintain his accustomed lifestyle for the remainder of his life, protect Smith from financial ruin, and mitigate risk of frivolous spending."

Foster eventually left to start his own company, and Ne-Yo went along with him, letting Foster handle his business affairs and finances. However, Foster was said to have moved some of Ne-Yo’s money without his permission. Ne-Yo eventually hired another accounting firm, and those there reportedly "uncovered instances of Foster engaging in self-dealing and inappropriate conduct," which, according to the suit, included forging Ne-Yo's name on loan documents. Foster also reportedly invested major money from Ne-Yo into a water company that was on the verge of bankruptcy (a company that he was the president and CFO over…but Ne-Yo didn’t know that!). The lawsuit seeks $4.5 million, plus $3.5 million for the fees that Ne-Yo paid Foster over the years.

Not that Ne-Yo is in financial ruin, but that is a LOT of money to have lost due to someone else’s fraudulent behavior. I couldn’t deal with being a celebrity and having somebody else manage all my money. I would have to have meetings every month and keep records of everything on my own as well. There’s not too many people you can trust, especially with your money! Here’s hoping that this is an open-and-shut case for Ne-Yo, and he gets the funds he deserves.

Jennifer Hudson and Ne-Yo dorpped their video for their new song "Think Like A Man," which has been on repeat in my iTunes for about a couple of weeks now! The collaboration also features Rick Ross, and serves the theme song for the upcoming movie Think Like A Man. TLAM is based off of Steve Harvey's hit book, Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man, which gave great relationship advice for women from a man's perspective. I encourage you all to get that book.

The movie definitely has a lot of star power, starring Michael Ealy, Regina Hall, Gabrielle Union, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Hart, Meagan Good, and Terrence J! TLAM hit theaters April 20! Check out the trailer for the movie and J. Hud and Ne-Yo's video for "Think Like A Man" below!

J. Hud looks incredible as always! I see her trying to get her little dancing in! The video was great. Ne-Yo and Jennifer's voices are awesome together, and Rick Ross adds in that Maybach swag. Kevin Hart definitely adds in some comedy too! I'm excited to see this movie for sure!

Ne-Yo and his friend Monyetta Shaw (Ne-Yo keeps saying they aren't together), have welcomed their second child together this past Sunday, October 9th. Ne-Yo's rep confirmed the news to PEOPLE.

The couple are also parents to a daughter, Madilyn Grace, who will be turning one next month. The singer just tweeted the details about an hour ago on his new child:

Congrats to Ne-Yo, Monyetta, and big sis Maddie! And welcome Baby Boy Mason!

“[Fatherhood] has been a ride, but I’m loving every minute of it,” Ne-Yo told PEOPLE in September about his new role as Dad.

His newest record, The Cracks in Mr. Perfect, is due out in 2012.

Morning yall. Well it's about 11:15 at night on Monday night in Aussieland. I'm bone tired, but I owe yall way more blog posts than I can probably even manage right now. As always forgive me. My host university requires a lot of independent study. Well not really requires, but I'm so afraid of doing bad over here I make it like a requirement lol Plus the teachers aren't as in-depth on material as I would like, and I fear they will put stuff on the exam that we never went over so I do it myself. ANYWAYS LOL.... I have to press every now and again, because this blog is more than a side project for me. It's my dream.

So after that long spiel haha, here's a post. Have you heard this? With songwriting, singing, and acting under his belt, Ne-Yo is branching out into his artistic side, creating a cartoon series for Cartoon Network, according to 24HourHipHop.com. First time I'm seeing it. Thought it was interesting....

The show, created for his sister, is called I Heart Tuesday and is expected to begin production soon. The storyline is about "a 16-year-old girl that inherits the curse of her bloodline and she's forced to save the world from the unknown evil every Tuesday for the rest of her life," according to the singer. Haha sounds fun. Definitely something kids might like. Shoot, I might tune in for the heck of it. Such a big kid. I would at least have to see one just to see his skills. Will you check it out?

PEACE.

Morning yall! Happy Sunday. I'm headed to church but had to post this for yall. Ne-Yo is officially a daddy! According to People, his girlfriend, Monyetta Shaw, had a baby girl last night. Coming in a little earlier than her January due date, Monyetta gave birth to Little Miss Madilyn Grace Smith. "I've been in love before but this feels like nothing I've ever felt," said Ne-Yo on Twitter. "Like I'm in love for the first time."

Ne-Yo was at a charity event for his foundation when word reached him that Monyetta had went into labor. He did make it to the hospital for the birth. Both baby and mommy are fine according to Ne-Yo's reps.

Ne-Yo has another due date to look forward to! His brand new album, Libra Scale, will hit stores Nov. 22. I'm too excited!!!!

PEACE.

I've been trying to get these videos up all day!!!!!! None of my websites were working today on my computer for some reason, so forgive me for the lateness...

Ok, so here are the mini movies for Ne-Yo's new songs, "Beautiful Monster" and "Champagne Life," off his upcoming album Libra Scale. It's been said that the whole album tells a whole story, so make sure that you pay close attention to the videos. They're very interesting, and go well with the songs. There's a similarity to Will Smith in Hancock (which is gonna have a sequel btw) with the whole superhero theme. Watch the videos after the jump!

Definitely am loving these songs! I can't wait for September 21!

PEACE.

A few days late with this post, but I figured I would be writing it soon enough after seeing all of these pics with Ne-Yo and his girlfriend Monyetta Shaw. During a photoshoot to promote his upcoming album Libra Scale, Ne-Yo told Ebony magazine that he is indeed expecting his first child.

“I am 30 and I do have my first child on the way, and I’m very, very, very excited about that,” he admitted. The baby is reportedly due in January of next year. “It’s a New Year’s baby and I’m just in a really good place right now," Ne-yo said.

Congrats Ne-Yo! I'm sure you will be a great father! Can't wait for September 21 (the release date for Libra Scale). I need new material from Ne-Yo badly...

PEACE.
Morning yall....hope all is well.

Early this morning, Ne-Yo premiered his first single off his upcoming album Libra Scale, called "Beautiful Monster." Listen to it below!

It's not the hottest song I have ever heard from him, but it's catchy. I'm a big Ne-Yo fan, so I'm looking foward to the new album. Been patiently waiting since Year of the Gentleman. Libra Scale is going to be released in September so be on the lookout.

PEACE.
