Another spotlight for you all! Music keeps coming in, and I'm loving it! As always, if you are or you represent an upcoming musician, singer, rapper, designer, poet, etc., please feel free to email me for a feature on the blog!

Today, we have Canadian singer-songwriter Celleste! The singer, the youngest of four, grew up in a musical household. Her own dad was a musician, and that opened her ears to a lot of great music! "My brother introduced me to classic rock, my sisters helped me discover bubblegum pop, and my dad had me listening to country music. Quite the mix!" Celleste said. She's a big fan of Led Zeppelin, but also pop stars like Madonna, Lady Gaga, P!nk, and Justin Timberlake. The 30s and 40s eras of music are seeming to pop up more in her music these days, she stated. "I've always loved the feeling I get when I listen to singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee," Celleste said. "So even though I'm writing pop-rock, those flavors seem to be showing up more and more." Definitely an eclectic taste!

Originally from Montreal, the artist admitted that it wasn't her own music scene that had an impact on her sound. Even in her own city, she felt a bit like a "fish out of water." "Somehow I found myself 'California dreaming' at the age of 5," Celleste said, reminiscing about her love of American culture. "I knew there was something else out there for me, and I was determined to find it."
Celleste got her official start in music 10 years ago, after auditioning for a production show in her city, which was set to tour in the States as well. She saw the show as a major opportunity for her, and got the job! Her goal was to get as much stage experience as she could, and that's exactly what she did. "For three years, I was on tour performing 5 to 9 shows a week," she said. "When there was time off, I worked on other musical projects, and with other bands." Talk about ambition! Through that show, she met her future producer/co-writer and business partner. After the show, she began working on her first album, Ready To Fly in 2010, which was followed by her second album Join The Infestation in 2012.

Her latest project, Deconstructing the Infestation, is an EP that features songs from Join The Infestation, but remastered into an acoustic format. "Originally we had wanted Join The Infestation to be a double album, one acoustic and the other electric," Celleste said. "Because of time constraints, we were forced to hold off on the acoustic material. It was great to complete the entire vision."

Co-writer and producer Eric Dick worked with Celleste on the EP, which was released in November, along with Steve Bucci on drums and percussion, Bobby Stagg on piano and bass, and Hubert Maeux on guitar for track "Sick and Tired."Celleste stated that the EP gave her a chance to sing in a different way than usual. "The idea was to really explore the melodies, play with the keys, and have fun with harmonies," Celleste said of the experimental style. "Slowing down some tempos also gave me a chance to sink into the tunes in a way that you can't when they're faster." She also wanted to take her music back to the basics, jamming on the guitar on the couch, creating raw music, not just music produced in a rock context. The results are absolutely incredible! Two of her favorite tracks included "Sick and Tired," as well as "Bitter Pill, which has amazing riffs that add to "The Addams Family feel of the murder theme."(You have to listen to understand what she means *smiles*) You can snag your own copy on iTunes now!

Currently, Celleste is co-owner of her own music label, Mighty Music, working on developing the company and building her own portfolio as an artist. She's also involved in a lot of the creative side of the label, shooting and editing videos, graphic design, photography, and more! However, this year, she really wants to focus on live performing, hitting the stage as much as she can. "We've already got some dates and great showcasing opportunities on the calendar," Celleste said. "So my band and I are really looking forward to getting out and playing for people."

Something that she feels sets her apart from the pack, is that she's really involved with every aspect of her career, something that not a lot of artists these days can say. Her work on her label is intense, from designing a CD booklet layout, writing and recording in the studio, shooting photos, and the like, plus rehearsing, performing, dancing, and acting! That's a lot on her plate! "I don't know too many artists who get to oversee their entire career to that extent," she admitted. "It's a very creative lifestyle, and extremely fulfilling."

In terms of where she would like to be in the future in terms of her career, her answer is simple. "On top of the world," Celleste smiled. She has two sides to her music: the Gwen Stefani pop side, and the Steven Tyler rock side. "As I keep writing songs, the goal is to bridge the gap between the two, and find that perfect balance where edgy rock can live alongside melodic and fun pop," the singer said. "I feel like it's getting much closer, and I'm already excited about the ideas we have for the next album!"

Seriously, the girl is amazing! Her voice is filled with emotion and passion, and her music will rock you in a major way! You can check out more from Celleste on her official website, as well as connect with her on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube!
Another spotlight for you all today! As always, if you would like your work to be featured on The
Spotlight, please email me!

Today on Spotlight, we have New Zealand singer-songwriter Glenn Aitken! Glenn picked up playing piano at an early age, and then went on to teach himself guitar and saxophone as well. He played in bands four nights a week while studying at university, and when he graduated, he left to play with a band in Shanghai, China!

Inspired by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and John Mayer among others, Glenn also admitted that his home of New Zealand also has had a strong impact on his career. “New Zealand has a thriving music industry full of amazing talent,” the singer said. “I grew up playing songs from such great songwriters [such] as Neil Finn and Dave Dobbyn.” Pop rock band Crowded House, formed by both New Zealand and Australian members, is one of his favorite bands to this day.

Read more on Glenn below!

Glenn himself was noticed after spending time in the Maldives by none other than Sir Paul McCartney himself, and was offered a publishing deal around 2003. “It was a lightning bolt from the blue sky meeting Paul, getting to know him and forging a friendship,” Glenn said of the chance. The songwriter admitted that it was the Beatles’ own song “Blackbird,” that made him want to learn guitar for himself! Glenn got the opportunity to play the song to him, as well as play other Beatles classic WITH him, something that Glenn will always cherish. Paul also played bass on Glenn’s own song “Ordinary People!” “To have his interest in my original music was surreal,” Glenn recalled. “The day he did the recording session on "Ordinary People" was probably one of the most stressful days on record for him personally, and, although having cancelled a week of his schedule, he kept his studio date with me and came in and did about five passes on the track.” Talk about commitment! Glenn went on to praise Sir Paul on his character and work ethic. “He is such a genuine person, and truly someone who has changed the world with his music,” he said. “[He has] an amazing ear for music, and the magic he brought to the track will be there for eternity for people to discover.”

Glenn released his sophomore album Platform in July 2013, which was inspired by various events in his life, his band, and his wife. “People were always coming up after gigs and saying how they loved [debut album] Extraordinary Lives, but also enjoyed how the band really gave an edge and a live vibe to those tracks,” he said. “And so the idea for Platform was to do pretty much a live album, just like the old days.” Recorded at State of The Ark Studios in Richmond, London, Platform featured Glenn’s band (Simon Small on electric guitar, Alessandro Paolillo on keys, Lee Aaron on drums and Sam Coath on bass) as well as Lloyd Jukes as lead engineer and Stuart Eps on engineering as well. “It was an incredibly intense week in which we recorded 15 songs in 6 days, sometimes doing 15 takes to get the right one,” the singer admitted. “The end result was an album with a great vibe, and a lot of great passion from all concerned.”You can preview and buy Platform on iTunes now!

When asked to choose a favorite track on the album, Glenn found it hard, but came up with an answer. “If I was leaving on a rocket and could only take one, definitely 'Hold On’,” he stated. “It is one of the better ballads I have written and that recording day was just a very special one. We did 4 takes of it and then went to hear it back … it was just perfect as it was.” Whenever he listens to it, he admits that there’s not one thing that he would change on the track.

Currently, Glenn is working on material for his third album, which is set to be recorded this year. “I have recorded two tracks already with John Ravenhall, who produced Extraordinary Lives in such a magic way,” he admitted. “We are doing two stripped out numbers, one on grand piano with strings and the other acoustic guitar and strings. They are very exciting tracks!” In terms of the future, Glenn has dreams of being “on the bigger stage,” performing on tour, with a great label on board. He also would love to tour New Zealand and Australasia as well. “Until then I keep on writing, performing to whoever will listen, and loving every minute of my extraordinary life!” A positive outlook!

You can visit Glenn's official website, as well as connect with him on Facebook and Twitter!

“I just heard the music and had to play it twice before it hit the air. You have extreme talent and I know you are gonna be the next big thing….”--Byrant Corbitt, Radio Personality, Dothan, AL
Here is another spotlight for you all! (For upcoming artists, designers, producers, etc., who are interested in a feature on the blog, email me! I'm open to any genre or style.) Today, we have KlearJ, an upcoming hip hop/rap artist from down in Atlanta (where we know a lot of the biggest music is hailing from).

KlearJ has worked with multiple artists and DJs over the last few years, networking and grinding to the top!

The rapper got an early start in music being raised by a family of musicians. His grandfather was an early songwriter for Atlantic Records, and his father was a local Gospel/Soul-Singer and songwriter. In 1992, KlearJ decided that hip hop was for him, with artists like Kris Kross, Das EFX, and the Notorious B.I.G. serving as his influences. After leaving Atlanta in 1995 and settling into Eufaula, Alabama for ten years, KlearJ moved back to the ATL (where we know some of the biggest artists in the industry are hailing from!). Having honed his rap skills in Alabama, the rapper is now taking advantage of the huge music scene that Atlanta has to offer! "Many have described my sound as unique, new and gritty, but also parallel to some of the greatest southern hip-hop artist such as T.I., Bun-B and Big K.R.I.T," the rapper said.

Check out his new track "Bwai Stop" featuring Grand Champ & Tiny Teazzy below! The track will be featured on KlearJ's upcoming mixtape ABSTRACT which will be released in April!

You can connect with KlearJ on Facebook and Twitter, as well as check out his ReverbNation page  to hear even more of his music!
Yall know that I love to spotlight upcoming artists on the blog, and I'm definitely getting back into doing more as the year goes on! So, of course, I had to highlight my boy Smash Adams, as he performed at the Chit Chat Lounge down in Atlanta this past weekend. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it (one day blogging will be the only job I have and need). My friends did though, and, needless to say, I missed a good show.

You can follow Smash on Twitter and Instagram! He's constantly posting about his upcoming music and performances for the fans, so be sure to check him out! Watch the performance below!

Since the start of The Spotlight, I've been able to connect with a lot of talented upcoming artists for features and mixtape releases. It's been an incredible addition to the blog (email me for a feature of your own!).

Rapper 8More released his mixtape only hours ago. Endustry 8 was created based off of this upcoming rapper's serious drive and chase for success. The hunger is blatant in this mixtape, as 8More strives to make a name for himselve in this industry. "The people like my family, friends and even my haters gave me even more inspiration than I could of imagined," he also said.

Read more and listen to the mixtape below!

Endustry 8 gives features from underground artists Freck Billionaire, Ruga Dre Butcher, Sean Christian, and more! While the project has instrumentals, 8More produced 75% of the beats accompanying the mixtape.

The overall message of the project is "life" according to 8More. "It's a fun project about how most people think this industry is worth chasing but it's really not unless you're following your dreams and not the fame!" the rapper said. The track that he really thinks everyone should check out? "Track 15, 'We Up In Dis.' It's very electrifying and spry...[a] club mover!" he said.

Even though the mixtape just dropped, 8More is making plans for his newest project World's Favorite Number Megawatts 1.8 to be released in March of next year. He also has three new music videos coming out in December and January.

Endustry 8 is available online at various websites include DatPiff.com, LiveMixtapes.com, and HipHopReleases.com. Check it out and download it below!

Hello, hello everyone! Happy New Year to you all! Today, I'm listening to my boy Smash Adams' new mixtape F.N.A.O. (Failure's Not An Option), which includes his single "Blackout." The tape dropped this past week, and I gotta say I'm proud of the little clown haha. He's doing what he said he would! Listen to it below!

Upcoming rapper Lil Dep dropped his latest mixtape, Pink Slips, a little over a week ago, on November 8. Definitely had to share the link and a little more about the tape since I did a spotlight on him a while back!

Pink Slips is the rapper's 13th mixtape! "My inspiration was to create a mixtape behind its title "Pink Slips." If you have pink slips to an car that means you own it. Well, I'm basically saying I have the "Pink Slips" to the rap game," Lil Dep said, explaining the title.

Listen to and download Pink Slips below!

Lil Dep's favorite track on the tape is, "Let em Know." "When I wrote the song, I was being real and at the same time being a fool," the rapper said. " But what I like about it is that I rap in 1st and 2nd person on the track which is what makes the track interesting."

As of now, Lil Dep is busy doing features and booking shows, as well as contemplating a new project. However, his main focus now is promoting Pink Slips. "I put my all into this mixtape," he said. "It took me forever to drop because I was doubting myself and my music, but it's here now. My mind is on the money and [I'm] trying to get to the fame."

You can follow Lil Dep on Twitter, and check out his official website to hear more of his music!

A long while ago, about a couple of months after I start Spotlight in fact, I had the opportunity to interview my first upcoming artist for the blog, rapper Joshua. I was impressed with his rhymes, drive, and passion for music. Joshua recently released his third album, The 2nd, which is dedicated to his unborn son, Joshua Watkins II, who is due any day now!

I had the chance to catch up with Joshua about this album, his favorite track, and how he's grown as an artist over the years. Read more and listen/download his album, The 2nd, after the jump!

The album was a completely turn around from Joshua's 2nd album, I Hope You Love Me, which featured mostly singing from the rapper. The 2nd gets Joshua back into his rap flow, but he still acknowledges that that I Hope You Love Me was essential to his growth as an artist. "I needed to make I Hope You Love Me because I have always been rapping and it was starting to get redundant. I was questioning myself, "Why am I rapping?" he said. "When I started doing this new thing and singing and using harmony, it was a huge relief! It was a new way to express myself and I really enjoyed that side of me." He admitted that it was a challenge that he needed, but soon realized why he loved rapping, which sparked rhymes and ideas for The 2nd.

The album featured mostly the work of in-house producer, Bobby James. Joshua also worked with SkhyeHutch and Shag from Bandcamp, as well as DJ Cvince who worked with him on a remake of "To Live and Die LA" by Tupac Shakur ("To Live and Die in the A").  "I wanted to do my version about Atlanta and how it's the place to be. It's nothing like it and people love it. Everybody and they mama in Atlanta!!!" Joshua said. (Secretly, I'm thinking about moving down there eventually).  The song features Joshua's cousin Olivia singing. "I pray I made my city proud with this song I've been wanting to make for years. I also pray I made Tupac proud with this song he is an huge inspiration in my LIFE." he said.

His first single from The 2nd is the moving "Could Have Been," which speaks about regrets in life from different situations, never knowing what could have been in your life because you got wrapped up in other things. His favorite track on the album is "Differences. "The sound of it just puts you in this mode like I have to listen to this right here.  It's where I am at in my life and I am human," Joshua said. "I also love 'Where The Party At.' Just the perspective of what I think partying is. It's amazing."

When speaking on his growth as an artist, Joshua said simply, "With age you mature." And his music has down the same. "Other rappers can speak on clubs and women and drugs and all that stuff. So Ima speak on child molestation and growing up and handling business, rapping about my son and challenges as a husband and father you know?" Again citing Tupac as a great influence in that, Joshua wants to get back to rapping about real issues, which is greatly lacking in hip hop today.

Joshua is steadily pushing his album, as well as preparing for the arrival of his son Joshua II. He is also in a continuing working relationship with photographer Carlton Mackey with whom he has formed a music label, VISION Music. Check out the full album, The 2nd below!

I get a rack of emails everyday, spam from music websites and such. And sometimes they have some great upcoming artists, like upcoming singer/songwriter Britni Elise here. I have a song that she did a demo for Rihanna, "Don't Give A Damn About You," on my iPod. Can't remember how I found out. Even though it was a good demo, Ri never used it. Anyway, I like Britni's voice on that. And now she's come out with a new song quite recently entitled "I Miss You." Another amazing song by her...thought I would share. Check Britni talk about "I Miss You," and hear it in full.

 PEACE.

Gregory Scott Taylor Jr, also known as S.Taylor, is the COMPLETE musician. Not only does he sing and rap, he also is a songwriter, producer, and engineer. The 18-year-old from Fort WainWright Alaska has always had a great passion for music. "When I was younger, I played piano. Then when I was 13 I played tuba for 2 years." S. Taylor says of his start in music. "I started writing poetry at around 12 as well. That eventually turned to words to a beat. Then at the age of 13, I recorded my first record."

Read more on S. Taylor after the jump!

S.Taylor started experimenting with rapping and singing on records, as he learned to record himself. Although it was a small thing at first, his peers and other artists encouraged him to make a real career out of it. "Being in the music industry [has] always been my dream. It's just that I didn’t start taking it serious until mid 2008," S.Taylor said.

S.Taylor gave his mother as his greatest inspiration. "She always motivates me to keep chasing my dream no matter what," he said. "She is very supportive and is a big part of my music career." As far as other artists, he notes Krazy Bone, Drake, T-Pain and Cassidy as inspirations. "It would be an honor to be to of success but at the same time I want God to guide me to my own level of success," he added. When asked what makes him different from other rappers out now, the rapper stated that his flow, versatility, and hunger for his shot makes him unique.

S. Taylor heads up OverGrind Entertainment, an indie label based in Atlanta. The label has a roster of artists, engineers, and producers, a multi-faceted group working towards success in this industry. Check out their intro video here and be sure to follow them on Twitter.

He has worked on a variety of collaborations, including a song called, "I'm The One For You," by Young Dray.  The single that S. Taylor is pushing now, "I'm Gone Make It," features one of his artists under Over Grind, Yung Flame The Real.Check out the video below! (Both records are on iTunes and Amazon for $0.99.). He is also working on his own official single. "It's called "It’s On," produced by KpOnDaBeat but I have a special guest by the name of Dan Marshall who is playing the guitar on the record for me." he said. Marshall with many artists but  is mostly known for the song "Rockstar" by Chamillionaire feat. Lil Wayne.

OverGrind Entertainment has all of their music on YouTube, and S. Taylor can be contacted on Facebook and Twitter. Definitely an artist with potential and hustle! Be on the lookout for him and the rest of OverGrind!

PEACE.

I had the opportunity a while back to interview one of my good friends that's working on getting his name in the industry, Smash Adamz. Smash recently released his first single, "Blackout," off of his upcoming mixtape Me, Myself, and Smash. The song, produced by producer Dre in Atlanta, is "straight bars, no hook," as Smash himself states. "For all who doubted me, turn your stereos up. This one's for you," he starts, and proceeds to GO IN! This "self-proclaimed winner" talks to his doubters and haters straight up and shows them that he is a force to be reckoned with. Check out "Blackout" below!

Blackout by Smash Adams

There is a potential for a video; I'll keep you guys posted. Me, Myself, and Smash, set to be released on Smash's birthday September 1, is a fresh start for the rapper, who has parted ways with his label YSZ Entertainment. Running solo for his first official mixtape, Smash said that the tape will have a wide range of songs, including songs with amazing punchlines like "Blackout," and songs for the club. And ummm, even a sex song where he's actually singing! "Oh Lawd Jesus..." My words exactly from the interview haha. "It's a lot of diversity, a little mix of everything," Smash said. "So I just hope everyone can catch onto the mixtape." As of right now, he's working on music, and might even have a major hook up at AllHipHop.com for more promotion. Too excited for him! His talent beats several rappers out here now, and I'm excited to see where things go for him in the future.

PEACE.

Hey hey all,

So in the Hiatus post, I said I still had a few posts I wanted to put up. COMPLETELY slipped my mind, because of everything that I've been involved with. I'm still officially on hiatus in terms of blogging every day, but I have a few artists to get up, as well as pics and vids from Supafest in April. Unfortunately, making it to see Chris Brown didn't happen due to unforeseen circumstances *sigh* Hurts my heart to talk about, so I'll move on.

Anywho, one of the posts that I slacked on (my sincerest apologies) is the post on KaPo Mann's newest song "One and Only." Featured on his upcoming mixtape, Seen Alotta Faces Vol. 2, the song is an up-tempo ode to that "one and only" woman in a man's life. It features upcoming singer Big Mac as well. KaPo confesses to that one that he'll take care of her, cater to her, and uh, handle that business. You already know. That's what we ladies want. For a man to treat us well, and don't mind admitting how he feels. At least that's what I want. It's definitely a hit; I'm rocking to it as we speak! And yall know I'm a sucker for the rappers who got tracks for the ladies (see the love of my life Wale). Definitely check out "One and Only" below! It hits iTunes officially June 13th, and the mixtape will be around sometime that month as well! I'll keep you posted.

I need to get those pics/vids of Supafest up for yall...After that, I'm closing up shop until I get back to the States in June! Follow me on Twitter to stay updated....and for my ramblings on my life haha! I can't wait to get back to doing what I love :-)

PEACE.

Hey hey yall! This is my first post down under in Australia!!!! That hiatus was short huh? Apparently, I could access Internet, just under a guest account. Whatever I have to do to keep on track with Spotlight! I have to stay up later to blog and get it to yall in the morning in the U.S. (It's about midnight on Feb. 16 here, and 8 AM Feb. 15 on the East Coast). But like I said, I'm determined to keep up. Not even just for my readers, (though I seriously love yall and the positive feedback, but really a good part of it is for me. For my resume. For my love of entertainment. FOR ME.

But anyways, let me get back to my post haha. I saw this video on SingersRoom, and thought that I would share. It's a group that I had heard of a while back, even got their mixtape on my iTunes library somewhere. They're really good. R&B groups are borderline gone. (I seriously googled "R&B groups out now", and got TLC, Xscape, 112, and Jodeci as the first four sites). So I always perk up when I see them come out. Especially the mens!!! LOL. I swoon over a man being able to serenade in song...and a group is always better! :-)

Hamilton Park has been signed to Harrell Records and Atlantic officially, and have released this vid for their first single "Computer Love." I'm sure I'm a little late with it, but I'm just now seeing it so I had to post!!! I love their voices...Now I need R&B group Ahmir to blow up more and I'll be straight! R&B lover til the death of me...

Hey yall, hope all is well. Like I said, I've been busy putting in work on final projects and studying. Finals week at Loyola University is no joke. So I've disappeared, but I'm here for today lol. I have a spotlight on an artist that I should have done a looooonnnnggg while ago.

Hailing from the West Coast, we have AJ Johnson, aka J Boo Tha Bully. Read more about this upcoming rapper after the jump!

This 29-year-old rapper got his first taste of music at an early age. His mother and father were both involved in music. J Boo's mom sang back up on a song by singer Betty Wright, entitled "Winter, Summer, Spring, and Fall," that was later rerecorded by legendary singer Al Green. His father was in a band coming up that was the originators of "Caribbean Queen," that was taken by Billy Ocean (Smh wow.) J Boo's father used to have J Boo and his brothers sing and dance in little groups like the mini Jackson Five or the Temps lol. J Boo admitted that music has always been his dream.

Of course, his mom and dad served as musical inspirations for him, but he is also inspired by greats like James Brown, Prince, LL Cool J, Michael Jackson, George Clinton, Zapp and Roger, Tupac, Rahkim, Ice Cube, N.W.A, Morris Day, Bootsy Collins, and Eazy E. "These artists really put on shows They really had a love and passion for the music and they made you feel it and see it," J Boo said. "I would love to have shows and perform like them anytime...You got a lot from their music. It spoke to you in a way that I feel like is not happening today." Tell me about it.

Presently an indie artist, J Boo Tha Bully has been putting in serious work in the game. He's produced tracks for the YoungBloodZ, Renegade Foxx, and Petey Pablo. He also has four solo projects out online and in stores. He is currently working with rapper Bohagon on some music now as well. Bohagon and J Boo have a single released online entitled, "Money Talks," which you can listen to below. It’s the first single off the mixtape they are releasing. "I try and stay busy," J Boo said. He also has a Southeastern tour set for the beginning of the year. He is also working on videos for some of the songs he has released.

When asked what makes him different from other artists out now, J Boo said that he's not made up. He's just him. "I really come from the streets. I still have morals and loyalty to my true family and friends. I also create music of the feeling, not what’s hot or trending at the time to sell a record. I’m me no matter what." he said. That's what's up. I could go into a spiel on how artits have made that switch to the mainstream, but that's another story for another time. All I know is that I appreciate artists that don't become something they're not just to impress audiences.

J Boo Tha Bully has a great passion and drive for music. "The love for music and people that like it keep me in this," he said. "I can really do this until I die, simple. It’s like why quit on something you know is there?" Word. You can check out more of J Boo Tha Bully's music on YouTube, iTunes, as well as CD Baby, and TheZenutz.com.

Listen to "Money Talks" below!

PEACE.

Hello, good morning! Hope everything is well with yall. I'm...alive lol. Being at Loyola is wearing me down for several different reasons, but it's all good. I'm still blessed to see another day. Last day of classes is tomorrow, then finals, then it's out of Baltimore and back to PG County! Too excited to go home...

I have another spotlight to do today. I present to you Young Truth! An upcoming rapper who grew up in Harlem, William McMillan was exposed to the street life early on, around dealing and gangs. "From that very point, I knew I wanted to break the chain and be different, so I began to separate myself from negativity," the 22 year old rapper said. Read more about Young Truth after the jump!

After seeing his cousin rap, Young Truth approached him with a rhyme of his own. He received positive feedback, and has been rolling on the music path ever since. "I knew music was for me when I started to wake up in the morning and the first thing I though about after God was music. Music became my life, became my tool to met new faces. [It] helped me grow as a person," Young Truth admitted.

The rapper has been featured on different mixtapes, and has released two of his own, Truthfully Speaking, and It's My Turn Vol 1. He also has a single out right now called "Freak Me Baby," which is about...well yall can infer that from the title LOL but it's a hot, upbeat song.

He's not currently signed, but as I've learned without even being in the business, sometimes that's better for an artist to hold to their creativity and independence. Young Truth admitted the same. "Being an independent artist is best because the Artist doesn't have too many hands in their pockets," he said. "I'd rather grind it out independently until a label who's interested shows me they can do better than what I do alone." TRUTH.

When asked who his greatest inspiration was, Young Truth gave honor to his mother. She raised him as a single parent, and although times were hard, Young Truth noted that his mom always kept a smile on her face and worked hard to get to where she wanted to be. "She kept faith and ambition. Got her GED and from there she went to college," he said. "Now, she has a degree in business in accounting. That showed me anything can happen with faith."

As always I ask the artists I have the privilege to interview what makes them different from other artists out now. Young Truth said his style. "I try to treat every record like a conversation. I believe when someone listen to me they'll sense my character and that's what I want them to do," he stated. "I touch day to day topics in my music whether it's relationships, the streets, or simple fun. I want my listeners to know I'm no different from them and I feel a lot of artist don't do that." Jay-Z, Kanye, Eminem, and Lil Wayne are just a few rappers in the game whose lyrical ability and hustle inspires Young Truth.

Young Truth is fighting to make a name for himself in rap. His family and fans are what keeps him going. "I have a whole lot of people who actually believe in me," the rapper admitted. "I can't let them down but most of all I can not let myself down. I just keep God first and the the magic in. History will eventually be made." I know the feeling. This rapper has a lot of potential and great flow and lyrics. You can follow Young Truth on his Twitter, @YoungTruthIsMe.

PEACE.

It's Wednesday and World AIDS Day! Several of our celebrities have been digitally killed on Twitter lol for a serious cause: to raise money and awareness for HIV/AIDS. You can go to BuyLife.org or research other websites and donate money towards education on the virus! And get yourself tested!

I need the week to keep on keeping on! I'm officially counting down til I leave Loyola (7 more days of classes, 19 days til I actually leave LOL). So I'm focused on school and the blog right now. Working on a good number of spotlights on upcoming artists. Even have a rising designer for yall to look forward to so be on the lookout!

Today, I'm doing a review. Which I rarely do. The only one I did before this was my short critique on Chris Brown's Graffiti and Rihanna's Rated R (in favor of Chris, still love RiRi though). Today, I'm doing a review on upcoming rapper Supreme General's EP, The Supremacy, which he released last week. Read more after the jump!

This six-track EP has definite fire all throughout. Supreme boldly starts and stands his ground as a rapper with the first track "The Supreme General." "I'm the Supreme General / There is no chance of survival / I'm out here killin' 'em," the main chorus says. You can tell from this intro track that this is Supreme's passion and he's gonna reign supreme over the competition. Respect the hustle.

"I'm a G" is also a track that stands out on this EP. Supreme speaks of getting respect in the streets. Again, nobody can touch him. He's a beast, so haters and nonbelievers can fall back! "Stacks" was also a powerful song, very open and real about hustling in the streets. You do what you gotta do to take care of your own. That's why I can't judge anybody that makes their money dealing or stripping, what have you. I'm not saying everybody jump on board to the dope life, but you do what you gotta do to survive. Life is like that...

The Supremacy EP also features songs "Puffin' on That Good Sh*t," "Money Talks," and the final track "Supreme Dreamin," in which Supreme recognizes he has dreams of something more, really making a name for himself in the rap game. All in all, a great EP! Real and honest, you definitely want to pick this up! You can buy The Supremacy on iTunes now! The full album comes out Friday!!! Support real artists!!!!

PEACE.

Hey hey everyone. I know I said this week was my self-proclaimed "Get My Life Together Week" (see last post below). And I have been. I've been meditating a lot about my life, on things that I always say I need to work on, but never do. A passing of a friend at my church shook me up. I'm focused on living my life to the fullest, just like he did in his short 17 years of life {RIP DeAndre...we miss you <3}

But on to the post for today. I am proud to spotlight another artist. Been promising him this forever lol I need to get on my stuff. Hailing from Dallas, we got Jarrel Needum, aka B.E.Z. (prounounced "Be Easy" not bez lol). This 21 year old has been doing music since he was 8. He started playing drums at church, and then eventually picked up producing at the age of 14.  I'd say I realized music was for me when I started producing," B.E.Z. says."Everything came so natural to me. Music has always been my dream. I love it." Though he says he is a producer first, he is branching out into "the artist realm." Read more after the jump.

Like I said, B.E.Z. is a producer first. He's produced tracks on rapper Ni Taylor's "Take No Prisoners," Braysonic's "Sonic Boom," and J. Rhodes' "The Talented Mr. Rhodes." Other artists include The Jett, Supa, Dre Hitz, Lewis Contra, Starr K, Cris Cash, amongst many others. He is currently working on releasing his EP Extraordinary Gentleman in December.

Currently, B.E.Z is not officially signed to a label, but he works closely with 80's Baby Entertainment in Dallas. "I'm working towards being signed, but not being owned. If I EVER sign, it'll have to be a contract to where I have complete control of my project," B.E.Z. said. Completely understand. Artists ought to be able to have control over their work, but it doesn't happen as much on a major label, especially not when you first sign.

When asked about his greatest inspiration, B.E.Z. says he draws inspiration from everywhere. "I just go with what speaks to me at the time," he admits. He wants to make his own mark in music, "but when it''s all said and done, I wanna mean to music what Quincy Jones, Issac Hayes, Dr Dre, mean to music," B.E.Z. says. He is different from other artists in that he makes his own beats. "I'm [also] versatile when it comes to ideas as far as lyrical content, and I try and branch into every type of genre of music," he continues. When asked what keeps him going in his pursuit of music, B.E.Z. says, "I would have to say the love that I have for music keeps me going. It's my passion."

Check out his song, "I'm A Star" below!

You can follow B.E.Z. Twitter, on Twitter, and check out his other websites on Bandcamp, ReverbNation, MySpace, and YouTube.

Morning yall....Happy Monday. This week is "Get My Life Together Week." Emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually and academically. Oh, and journalistically (which is a word despite what Firefox says). As you have seen, I haven't written on here in a while, and I'm sorry :( This past week was not a good one, and honestly, Spotlight was one of the last things on my mind. But I'm back, and here is the spotlight on KaPo Mann. Read more after the jump!

Born in Jamaica and raised in Miami, KaPo Mann is an upcoming rapper. "Life [in Miami] was fast paced...South Beach was cool," KaPo said of his area. He was always around music growing up, even playing the trumpet in middle school. Although sports was his main thing, he began rapping over other artists' songs for the fun of it, and began taking the game seriously.

His mixtape The Southwest M.D. dropped in 2008, and he has also released Seen Alotta Faces with DJ Knight and Flame Up with DJ Anonymous KaPo is presently working on Seen Alotta Faces Vol. 2 which he said should be out late January. "My dream [is] to become the hottest mixtape artist in Florida," he said.

Music obviously has a great impact on KaPo, and serves as an outlet for him. "I like to get what's on my mind of my chest sometimes and that feels better than anything," he said. His friends serve as inspiration to him, some feeling his music and others not, inspiring him to push forward and make better music. T.I. (I love him!), 50 Cent, Fabolous, and Cam'Ron are some of KaPo's biggest musical influences.

When asked what makes him different from other artists, KaPo believes he's different because he sounds like himself, instead of trying to imitate another rapper. "I've done a lot in my life...good and bad so i have a lot to touch on," he said. As of now, KaPo is not signed to a label, still creating that buzz around his music. However, he wouldn't mind being an indie artist. "If show money is good I could stay as an independent artist because I love music naturally and like my own creativity," he admitted. He keeps going in pursuit of music. "This is something I wanna do, I can do, and even if I don't make it I still will make music," KaPo said. Definitely seems to be an artist with drive and plenty of potential! You can listen to more of Kapo on his ReverbNation page! Check out his video for "Flame Up" below!

PEACE.

Afternoon everyone! As you see, I've been slacking for the umpteenth time on the blog! Can I say again how ready I am to leave Loyola and get my career started?! Anyways, I want to apologize to the upcoming artists that I have interviewed and haven't gotten your posts up yet. This week, I hope to redeem myself starting with Supreme General. Had the opportunity to talk to him a few weeks back, to get his story on the blog so check him out after the jump!

Born David Adams, Supreme was raised in Buffalo, New York. Though he lived in what he called a "gang environment," he knew his block as home. After a stint in the Air Force, Supreme tried his hand at rapping, just playing around in a studio with a friend. He admitted to writing some poetry before, in an effort to get girls (lol good tactic), but seemed to understand then that words had power. "Literature and anything releated to the English language fascinated me," he said. After discovering that he had a bit of skill, Supreme continued writing and rapping, and has been going full time for about five years. He released his mixtape, The Prelude 2: A Classic!!!, about a year ago, and it can be downloaded here

He also founded his own label, Hustle Game Enterprises, after getting shut down by other labels. "I couldn't get signed. The only offers I was getting was from independent labels," Supreme said. The offers not being up to his standards, the 28-year-old rapper went on to research into starting his own label. "It seemed like the most intelligent thing to do considering I didn't want to sell my soul or be told what to do," he stated.

When asked who are his greatest inspirations in the game, Supreme went with two favorites--Tupac and Nas. He claimed that Nas' rhymes were very detailed and Tupac's lyrics had real emotion that he could connect with. He admits that he can't get with the newer rappers out now. "When you're in hip hop, [music] is based on authenticity," Supreme claimed. Which is true. Different artists out now lack the emotion, the realness that artists before them had. I'm writing a paper for my media class on that now BUT that's a story for another time LOL. Supreme feels like he could see a lot of rappers in the game right now, and that pushes him to keep going. He's inspired to make it from "seeing guys not as skilled as me have more." Listen to some of his music below! Does he stand a chance in the industry right now?

I gotta say, I've done not a lot, but quite a few, spotlights on upcoming artists, all of which have amazing talent. But this dude right here? His flow and lyrics FLOORED me. Everybody got their own tastes so you may not agree, but after watching this video below I was hooked!

"Show Me What You Got Freestyle"-Supreme General

I admire his flow and his boldness. Yall think he could make it? I say yeah. Be sure to check out on his website and Twitter, as well as iTunes and ReverbNation.
