White Eskimo

Another spotlight to end the work week! If you are or represent an upcoming artist, designer, writer, etc., and would like a feature on The Spotlight, please visit our Features/Submissions page for more info!

Today, we have UK pop punk/alternative rock band White Eskimo! Comprised of members Will Sweeny (vocals), Alex Lewis (drums), Ryan Smith (guitar) and Marcus Crestwood (bass), the band all went to college together, each studying music. They eventually formed a group, and were glad to just jam together and create music. “It was just a love that we took very seriously,” the band said in a statement. “We just love being together, rehearsing every day. It’s a dream come true that we can play music for a living.” Interesting side note: One Direction’s Harry Styles was actually a part of the band back in the day!

Though hailing from Manchester, England, White Eskimo was more moved by American bands that made an imprint on their sound. Artists that have inspired them include Foo Fighters, Blink 182, ACDC, Elvis, Ray Charles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many more legendary artists.

The group has been hard at work, performing and making music. In fact, they released their debut EP, 100X last year, with production by James Lewis (Rudimental, Rae Morris, Sunset Sons). The band also recently released a new single as well entitled “Game Time,” which they say was “born out of the hilarity of trying to pick girls up in a bar!” Mark Winterburn engineered the track at John Delfs’ The Edge Studios,” and it received a “nod of approval” from Ivor Novello award-winning and Brit award-nominated producer Pete Kirtley. White Eskimo has recently wrapped a music video for the track, directed by Karl Beattie, who has worked with Madonna, Elton John, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson. “We are so proud of the end result,” the group said of the video, which should be released soon. Check out the track below!

Currently, White Eskimo is preparing for showcases in L.A. with A&R Worldwide, which is definitely really exciting! In terms of what separates the group from other bands out now, they believe it’s their energetic and catchy music as well as their performance style. “Our live performances are a breath of fresh air as there is nothing like us out there at the moment. We are not Heavy metal and we are not an indie band but we engulf the energy and popularity of both,” the members stated. “With such a huge range of musical influences, our sound is so different and our live sets must be seen! We are unique because we have never set out to be like anyone else…[we] just [want to] be the people we are and play the music we like.”

When it comes to the future, White Eskimo simply wants to play their music and reach as many people as possible. “We will always play music. It’s in our blood, whether it’s to 20 people down a pub or 50,000 in a stadium,” the band said. “Our longevity will last as long as we are physically able to pick up our instruments."

Another spotlight, and we have more in the works!

Today, we have electronic rock and roll band Evol Walks! Fronted by Leah Martin-Brown, the band was formed originally in Australia, but was restructured when Leah made the decision to move out to Los Angeles in 2014. “I ended up re-branding my old band, essentially starting from scratch and began searching for other musicians to help build the new project (now called Evol Walks),” she stated. Now the band consists of Leah, CT Twywoniak (lead guitar), Dre DiMura (rhythm guitar), Ian Ross (bass), and Jimmy Lee (drums).

Leah herself started playing and performing music when she was seven or eight years old, and fell in love. “I always knew that it was what I wanted to do with my life,” she said. “There were never any other avenues I was interested in pursuing seriously.” Hailing from Gold Coast, Australia (“a major tourist hotspot,” she noted). had an impact on her and eventually the band’s music. “Growing up there, you see a lot of people living this crazy, high intensity, party lifestyle,” Leah said of her home, calling it the Las Vegas of Australia. “I think that made an impression on me as a lot of our songs are about wild nights out on the town.

Inspired by bands like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Monster Magnet and Black Sabbath, as well as Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Stevie Nicks Joan Jett, and Amy Lee, Leah and the band give off high energy and attitude, while still creating and performing amazing music! Evol Walks has shared the stage with great bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers and Dead Letter Circus and supported the likes of Everclear and The Presidents of The United States of America.

One of Evol Walks’ most recent tracks, “Without Me,” features not only Leah’s stand-out vocals, but the musical chemistry of the band overall. Leah used an ex from Australia as inspiration for the song. “We drifted apart and I ended up being with someone else and my ex couldn’t understand what had happened and why and just refused to let go,” she admitted. “The song was my gentle way of telling him how I felt and that he needed to move on.” Check out the track below!

Currently, Leah is focused on Evol Walks, as they all work on taking the band to the next level. She admitted that there aren’t many rock and roll bands out now with strong, female leads such as her, and that’s what separates them from the pack. “We are going against the indie trend currently happening,” Leah said. “We’re very honest about what we are and I think people can pick that up.”
As for the future, Leah has bright hopes for herself and Evol Walks. “Constantly touring the world and doing what I’m doing now would be awesome,” she stated. “I’d also like to collaborate on more projects and do some more co-writing in the future.”

Be sure to check out more from the band on their official website as well as SoundCloud and Reverb Nation. You can also follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

New music for you all today! Check out "Adieu" from R&B singer Trina Broussard!

Released under R&B Moguls Entertainment out of Atlanta, the track is about moving from someone, though there's still a lot of love there, but knowing that it's the best move. "You know I love you, it's true," Trina sings. "I bid you adieu." Her sultry vocals stand out on the mid-tempo track, which is reminiscent of the smooth R&B music of the 90s. Really liking this one!

Looks like Kelly Ripa will be starting the search for another co-host!

Michael Strahan has announced that he will be leaving Live! With Kelly and Michael to join Good Morning America as a full time co-anchor this fall.

"I look forward to continuing to work with the incredible team at GMA," Michael said in a statement. "It is an exciting opportunity to be able to bring unique stories and voices to the audience." He also added: "My time with Live! With Kelly and Michael has been transformative, and my departure will be bittersweet."

The former NFL pro was balancing work with GMA twice a week since 2014, while co-hosting Live with Kelly at the same time. However, he definitely still gave her love, and was appreciative of having her as a co-host for the past four years. "Kelly has been an unbelievable partner, and I am so thankful to her and the entire team. I am extremely grateful for the amazing support I've received from all of the fans."

Happy for Michael's transitioning to another position, but will miss his and Kelly's hosting chemistry on Live! They definitely made a great team. Best wishes to him, though!

What do you think of Michael's departure?

We have a great spotlight to start the week! As always, if you or your client are interested in being featured on The Spotlight, please visit our Features/Submissions page for more information!

Today, we have singer/songwriter and producer Matthew Steeper! From the age of four, Matthew has been singing, playing piano and the drums! Originally from Canada, the artist moved overseas to eastern Europe with his family, where he exposed to dance and electronic music, which was inspiring to him. "When I decided to do music as a career, that was where my passion was," Matthew stated.

In the beginning of his career, Matthew actually started as a producer, and started to create electronic music at the age of 12. Attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, he eventually moved to New York City where he soon received more work in production of dance music, branching off into writing and singing. "It kind of gave me a great, even perspective of the sides of creating music," he acknowledged. Inspired a lot by European artists like Tiesto, Armin, Astro Projection and Aly & Fila, Matthew was motivated by seeing producers being artists as well.

In 2012, Matthew's first major release  as a featured artist with Canadian DJ/producer duo Project 46 on track, “No One,” which became a Beatport Top 10 hit. He then went on to creatively oversee the group's album “Beautiful” on Ultra Records, which included a Grammy-nominated collaboration, “Last Chance” with Kaskade! Collaborating with Blind Scuba Divers, he also co-wrote the track, "Models and Bottles” which was featured in 22 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. In 2015, Matthew kept the momentum going with his first radio hit, “Come Alive” with Adam K, while releasing other new tracks. At the end of the year, he ended up signing a major publishing deal with Spinnin' Record's publishing affiliate, MusicAllStars/Sony ATV!

The artist keeps grinding and creating, writing, producing, and performing new tracks. One of his latest collaborations is track, "We Unite," with Italian producer duo Haxon & Rush. The track is a great listen, and is actually based on an experience in Matthew's own life, which was very special to him. "It's really a love song about two people that wish they could be together, but they're separated for whatever reason," Matthew said. "It's about the universe bringing them together, and the climax being when they are finally united." Check out the track below!

In the future, Matthew has plans for a full-length album, and may even have some re-releases of his other collaborations with DJs and producers. "There's definitely an album in the works," the artist stated. "I just want to make sure it's done right and in the right time." He's currently focused on continuing to build up his overall brand and catalog, working with other great artists and producers.
In terms of what sets him apart from other artist, Matthew believes he has a true understanding of the music world, balancing work as a producer, songwriter, and singer. "When I write a song, I can write it as an artist, and I can write it as a DJ or producer, listening to what a crowd would want to hear," he stated. That overall perspective gives him a bit of an edge, being able to understand different sides of the spectrum within the industry. Throughout his career, Matthew hopes to continue to take risks as a singer/songwriter, regardless of any doubts or fears. He also hopes to have bigger features with specific brands to be able to grow in his career, and develop a bigger platform for his own music.
You can check out more from Matthew on his SoundCloud. You can also follow him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

Doctor Strange's original plot is about Stephen Vincent Strange, a neurosurgeon who becomes charged with being the Earth's newest protector against all things mystical.

Variety mentioned that "Tilda Swinton will play Strange’s mentor, the Ancient One, with Chiwetel Ejiofor appearing as Baron Mordo, who studies magic under the Ancient One in the comic-books before becoming Doctor Strange’s nemesis."

Ms. Lauryn Hill has officially launched a three-day series of music and art events celebrating the African Diaspora!

The singer came up with the series, entitled "Diaspora Callling," which, she explains,  is a collection of works “intended to celebrate the rich tapestry of artists from the African Diaspora while also illumining persistent and irrepressible themes... Even if we work independently, we are a resounding collective voice, both reconciling and embracing our relationship to history, our origins, our future and to ourselves."

With the official opening held last night, a private art gallery will be opened to the public today (April 14) and April 15 from 12-4 p.m. at Brooklyn's Kings Theatre. Lauryn curated the gallery with the assistance of MoCADA, Nader Haitian Art, and The Haiti Cultural Exchange.

In addition, her sold out concert at the venue (which will be live-streamed on Tidal) on April 15 will become the inaugural Diaspora Calling! Music Festival, featuring performances from Machel Montano (Trinidad), Stephen 'Ragga' Marley (Jamaica), Stonebwoy (Ghana), Mr. Eazi (Nigeria), EL (Ghana), Wondaboy (Nigeria), JoJo Abot (Ghana) and Paul Bearbrun (Haiti).

This sounds like a really cool event that will give people the opportunity to hear music and view art from different cultures! Though Lauryn now has a reputation of canceling on events and what not, I think this festival and series will be great. Kind of wish I could go!

Another spotlight to start the week, and there are definitely quite a few more on the way!

Today, the spotlight is on rising singer, producer, engineer AND rapper Myze! Hailing from Chattanooga, TN, he was raised in the church and grew up on gospel and Christian rock music. began dabbling in music during his junior year of high school, working on production just as a hobby. During his senior year in 2013, Myze produced a track for one of his cousins, which sparked his interest “It just felt really good to hear someone else’s voice on something I did,” the artist admitted. “From that point on, I just learned how to produce for myself.”

In our interview, Myze shared the short and sweet story of how he came up with his artist name. “It’s actually kind of a corny story, but I like it,” he laughed. With his light brown eye color, he used to get a lot of compliments on his eyes when he was younger. “One day, I was just sitting in my bedroom, and just thinking ‘What really made me growing up?” he said of coming up with his artist name. “I put [the phrase] ‘My eyes’ together and made Myze.”

Inspired by Timbaland, Aaliyah, Gucci Mane, Drake, and more, Myze creates his own unique style of music that hails from his versatile tastes in genres. “I know the music I want to hear and, to do that, I just figure if I create my own music, write my own songs, and produce, I can put my whole mind out there, and I don’t have to depend on anyone else,” he revealed.

Back in October 2015, the artist dropped his project, Please Don’t Listen. The title was, in a sense, reverse psychology, as Myze used the phrase “Please, Don’t Listen,” to spark curiosity for listeners. “When we were kids, you always did things you were told not to do,” the artist said, hoping that the title would get people to actually listen to his work. Be sure to cop the project on iTunes now!

This year, Myze introduced his series, #MyzeMondays, releasing not only new music, but art, t-shirts, etc., anything to engage people. One of the most recent tracks he dropped, “Amy,” which was inspired by rapper Logic’s track “Nikki,” which actually spoke about nicotine. “It just sounds like he’s talking to a woman, and it makes you feel like there’s a relationship going on,” Myze stated. “You get so wrapped up into the song that you actually forget you’re listening to a song about cigarettes.” Incorporating that feel into song, he gave life to his love of Amsterdam Vodka (which he calls Amy), and he talks about his experience with liquor on the track. Check out “Amy” below!

A multi-talented artist, Myze literally writes, produces, engineers, and performs his work on his own, which he admits can be a struggle for him in terms of balance, but he is able to buckle down and get the work done. “Most people just do one thing, like just produce or just write. I do everything for myself top to bottom,” Myze said. “Some days, I dedicate time to engineering, some days producing. Some days I take the time out to contact people and try to get engineering spots or producing placements here and there.”

Currently, the artist is not in a rush to create another project, instead focusing on building with people and creating a solid fan base, rather than putting out too much music. In terms of what sets him apart from other artists, Myze believes it’s his go-with-the-flow attitude in terms of creating music that makes him stand out. “Whatever I feel, I’m going to create. I create music because I enjoy it, and because I know it He also wears all of the hats in his career from the music side to the public relations and management sides, so he’s definitely on the grind!

You can check out more from Myze on SoundCloud, and follow him on Twitter and Instagram!

British singer/songwriter Mi'das has officially released his debut album, All Inside Your Head!

The album is a collection of songs which represents the last 10 years of his own life. As for the meaning behind the name of the project, Mi’das stated, "I called it 'All Inside Your Head as I've come to notice that most things in this life, good or bad, come down to something you can change yourself in your own mind without blaming anyone or looking for other reasons."

Mi'das brings a lot of soul and emotion to each track, and I definitely think you guys will enjoy it!
