I'm truly grateful for genuine connections and mutual support. I have that with Miami designer Ashley Chin, who I have featured several times on The Spotlight! Over the years, Ashley has branched out into the fashion world tremendously through her styling ,her own designs and now  Lux House Mob brand, as well as writing and editing for Ally The Journalist. I've been proud to watch her grow!

Ashley shared with me today that she is retiring from styling to focus solely on the business side of fashion. From prayer and talking with her mom, she bravely made the decision to turn to a new chapter in her life. "I think it was me really discovering my true niche," the designer said. "I mean, I LOVE styling but I think its run its course and now I have to aim for higher and more challenging projects in order to grow."

Ashley is now working as Brand Ambassador for Vaughn Brian Clothing and Creative Director for twelveAM Clothing, two great brands that give Ashley the opportunity to learn and grow in the business side of fashion. "When I made the decision to work with VB, it was just the vision of the brand, the team is so amazing and their aura makes you just so motivated to do great things," she said. "As for my decision with Twelve AM, I was working with the owner pulling clothes for shoots and different projects, when one day, she spoke to me about becoming creative director of her brand in which I was thrilled." Ashley admires both brands and their creators so much, and she'll definitely do well in working with them.

Ashley's also working wholeheartedly on her own brand, Lux House Mob, which she can now really focus on. "When I first started with the name Vane For Decades, I think then I was still so indulged with styling that I couldn't give my full attention to my store to help raise it," she admitted.
Now I think I'm in a better space where I just want to focus solely on business and helping to raise it to its full potential." With new items on the website, and a denim collection coming this summer, Ashley made a sacrifice to benefit her future, which is commendable. "It's like a baby having a busy mother that makes the decision to work less so she can be there for her child," she said. "I'm working smarter, not harder."

I'm very, very proud of her, and know that she will continue to do great things! Shop Lux House Mob now! Also, be sure to also check out Ashley's official website and follow her on Twitter and Instagram

Today, on The Spotlight, we have alternative pop/R&B singer Ash! A few weeks back, I featured her song "Perfect" on the blog, which is getting a lot of great feedback from listeners. Of course, I wanted to interview this great upcoming artist, and share her story here!

Ash grew up in a creative home, and actually starting singing around the age of three. She wrote songs basically all of her life, but, after graduating from Spelman, decided to actually work for the government, just like her mom. "Once I started working in the public sector, I realized that I needed to stop working in the public sector and pursue my dreams," she chuckled. The singer saved up money, and began working as a background vocalist.

Ash has sang background for a variety of different gospel artists, including Karen Clark Sheard, at church conferences, and also did background vocals on music from Tyler Perry's film I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Now the artist sings background for the Electric Lady herself, Janelle Monae, which she calls an amazing experience. "The band is composed of really, really cool creative people. Everyone is like a jack of all trades. It's really, really fun," Ash said. "[Janelle's a gem and [has] lots of great energy, [and] lots of poise. And many of us went to college together so it's really cool working with friends."

Inspired by artists like Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, and Steve Perry from Journey, Ash is branching out on her own to create her music, her way, and to let her voice be heard. When asked what prompted her to step out as a solo artist, the singer stated it was the time to do. "I've completed my education, I've had experience working in the real world. I've had experience traveling with an amazing artist, and I've gained so much insight," Ash said. Now is the time for her to give herself a voice and put out a project and see if people can relate to what she has to say. "You just go for it," the singer admitted. "You don't know how it's going to turn out, but you just kind of have to try."

Her single "Perfect," as I said in my previous post, is a bright, fun alternative-pop track that is a great debut. It was really about my dad [who recently passed away]," Ash revealed. When her parents divorced, she grew up thinking certain things and being mad at some situations, but as she grew older, realized that any issues with her father didn't matter. "My father and I were very close. [I realized] I didn't need him to be some of the things I don't think he was for me as a kid, but I appreciated all of the other jewels he offered me over the past few years," the singer said. "Because of that, I realized that he was actually perfect after all."

"Perfect" is the lead single off of Ash's upcoming project, The Perfect EP, which is set to be released on February 10, 2015! The singer said listeners can expect "some fun, honest, relatable music," which I'm excited about! "I can't wait to hear what everyone else's thoughts are, but just get ready to have a good time, smile, and be cool because that's definitely the energy that's in that project," Ash said. She is working with producer Terrence Brown on the EP, writing and creating music for the project, so definitely be sure to watch out for that!

What I loved about talking with Ash is her positive, laid back vibe, and the fact that she's confident in herself. "I'm just comfortable being Ash. Doing my own hair, putting on my own clothes out of my closet," she said. "I'm really just going to be myself, and write from my heart. Nowadays, it's hard because you want people to accept you, and you want be the next Beyoncé or even Janelle Monae, but I'm very comfortable in my own skin. That's what I look forward to offering to the music industry, the whole me." In terms of her future in music, the singer has a few specific goals that she would like to accomplish. "I would like to win a Grammy one day," she laughed. "I want to be able to travel all over the world, and sing and play for people who want to listen." She also wants youth to know that even if you go to college or become a part of other ventures, you can still be creative and dive into music or other artistic moves. And, for Ash, even if the awards and major performances don't come, just to be able to sing and perform is what she's looking forward to most!

Be on the lookout for Ash's debut EP, The Perfect EP, on February 10, 2015 (purchase can purchase "Perfect" on iTunes now)! You can also listen to more from Ash on SoundCloud, as well connect with her on Twitter and Instagram

I'm really loving this season of The Game so far! Picking up from last week, after practice, Jason gets in his car and Malik is randomly there in the backseat! He brings a bag for Jason to open and it's filled with money. Malik tries to bribe Jason to get back on the team, but Jason obviously refuses, right  some of the other coaches get in the car.

Meanwhile, Blue and Keira are shooting a commercial, which Keira seems to hate because she considers herself to be a real actress, even though her part in the movie got cut. For some reason, she thinks a commercial is below her. She over acts with her TWO lines, not impressing the director at all. Meanwhile, Blue acts normally, and does very well. The director gives Keira a Snickers, as if to say you're not you when you're hungry!

Later, Tasha strolls over to Chardonnay's with Kyra still crying. She tries to drop her off with Chardonnay, but Chardonnay has a meeting with a divorce lawyer. Tasha is really freaking out, so Chardonnay decides to stay. They try everything to calm Kyra down. They eventually rock her car seat and get her to sleep, or so they thought. When she starts screaming again, they try a puppet show, which doesn't work either. At that moment, Malik comes over, and has a whisper fight with Tasha because of the baby. He complains about Tasha not working to get him back on a team, and fires her, but she, in turn, fires him! I don't know how, but that's their relationship! Right when Chardonnay gets Kyra to sleep, Malik yells goodbye to her on purpose, waking her up and making Tasha furious!

On the set, Blue films the Snickers commercial and does a great job! As they watch the commericial later, Keira realizes her lines get cut, but maybe if she hadn't been acting extra, they wouldn't have been! Blue was trying to be supportive by "getting her the part," though she thought that Snickers called her reps and asked for her. Blue admits to Keira that her priorities have been out of order lately, with her sleeping in and not working on anything. When Blue says that maybe she would shine better in a different position in entertainment, Keira gets upset, as she believes acting is her life. Though Blue feels like all it seems to give her is disappointment, whatever she decides, he'll support.

Later, Kyra is still crying even as Chardonnay and Tasha sing. Taking a break, Chardonnay opens up about the answers that she got from Jason. She knew in her heart that he would always love Kelly, but she felt like if she loved him with all she had, it would've been enough. Now she's thinking how does she love and trust again? As Tasha holds Kyra, she calmly tells Chardonnay that she has to keep trying. Soothed by Tasha's soft tone, Kyra finally calms down. Looks like Tasha got her baby game back! Chardonnay will be all right too, once she gets half of everything Jason's got!

At Phatty's Keira is eating her feelings because of what Blue said. She opens up to Malik, believing that acting isn't for her anymore. Malik tells her that that's bull, and reveals that others didn't believe in him either. Even now, with his injury and failed trials, he won't stop working towards getting back on the field. Using the Reality Distortion Field to convince himself and others of anything, Malik is determined to make it happen! Keira needs to do the same. If acting is her passion, then she needs to be working at it 24/7. She shouldn't give up, but she needs to work harder at it. It's actually one of Malik's smarter moments in the show's history. Gave me a little inspiration myself!

At the end of the episode, Tasha goes over to see Jason, needing a favor. She needs him to put Malik back on the team. Jason refuses, knowing that he would lose credibility as a new coach asking for Malik's reinstatement. Tasha wonders if information on Kelly would change his mind, eventually telling him the truth that Kelly isn't seeing anybody, and opens that door of possibility for him! I love Brittany Daniel, so I'll be happy to see her back. I just wonder how the rest of this season will go with the love triangle between Jason, Kelly, and Chardonnay!

On last night's episode of The Challenge: Battle of the Exes 2, the exes yet again got a little too close for comfort! Picking up from last week, Adam and Brittany are making out at the club and dancing all up on each other, like they're still together! Meanwhile, Jonna and Jay are still trying to make Zach and Jenna jealous, as if they really care. When Zach and Jenna kiss, Jonna and Jay kiss back, as if to get even or something. It's so childish, if you ask me. We also find out that Nany is secretly pining for Johnny Bananas, even though he has a girlfriend! It's way too many emotions going on right now!

The next morning, Adam admits he knows he "opened the floodgates" with Brittany, who he has said before is really clingy. They're cool, but they just can't be that cool. The girls tell Brittany what Adam said, and she gets upset and starts yelling at him. They both need to get their relationship in check before they lose this game!

At the next challenge, T.J. announces the teams will playing "The Brush Off." The goal is to transfer as much paint as you can to a canvas bag. The guys will be standing on a platform, while the girls will jump in a pool of hot pink paint! Once they feel like they have enough paint on you, they will climb up a net to their partner and transfer the paint using their bodies "by any means necessary." The guys will then jump onto the canvas bag trying to cover squares on the bag. The team who covers the most squares in 3 minutes will be the Power Couple! The one to cover the least will be going straight to the Dome.

This game is BEYOND awkward with the exes, but so funny to watch! There's a lot of grabbing, hugging, and touching! In the end, it comes down to Jonna & Zach and Jordan & Sarah for the win. The winning team, that filled in all 12 squares, surprisingly was Zach and Jonna! I was happy for them, because they really need to boost their team morale. The losing team, however, was Knight and Jemmye, who are heading automatically in the Dome.

Back at the house, Zach wants to ask Knight and Jemmye who they might prefer to compete against. Knight stupidly wants to go for Bananas, but Jonna and Zach admit they will choose between one of the two rookie teams. They eventually call over Jenna and Jay, who Zach decides they will probably keep (obviously because of his blossoming relationship with Jenna!). A little later, Jonna brings up the fact that she wants her and Zach to be on the same page. Zach distanced himself because he thought that she still wanted him (which she kind of does, I believe). However, they work things out, and will move forward as friends.

That night, Adam jokingly does a strip show for all the girls after revealing that he filled in as a stripper at a party once. He goes to talk to Jonna, and she's honest that rookies get thrown in regardless of how many times they've been in elimination (she was a prime example). Adam tries to make her feel sorry for him and Brittany, and even brings up the fact that Jenna is hooking up with Zach, basically saying that it might be a good idea to vote in Jay and Jenna to end the relationship they're starting.

Jonna actually considers it, and talks to Zach about it the next day. He gets upset because clearly she's thinking with her emotions, but honestly so is he. If this was any other rookie team, and Zach wasn't hooking up with one of them, they've would've went in. However, they decide to send in Adam and Brittany at deliberation (this will be their THIRD time in a row). When asked why by T.J., Jonna has no idea really, and Zach talks about some statistics. Everyone knows that the real reason is because he wants to keep Jenna around. I need Jonna to really step up and voice her opinion in this partnership, because Zach is walking all over her. He even talks crap about her afterwards, and she overhears it. She manages to hold in her emotions in front of everyone, but cries in the confessional.

That night at the Dome, Adam & Brittany and Knight & Jemmye play "Breaking Up." There's two towers with two levels, with cinder blocks on both levels  .There's also a wrecking ball connected to a rope. The goal is to break the wrecking ball through the cinder blocks on both levels. The first team to do this will win This is definitely taxing on the body and the arms! Adam decides to take a break, once they get through the first level since Knight & Jemmye didn't. What?! Though they should've used that to their advantage, Jemmye & Knight fail to press through for the win and get sent home! I must say, I'm impressed by Adam & Brittany. To be thrown in three tines, and to come back every time, is no easy feat!

That night, Nany gets emotional talking to Johnny Bananas (she was a mess this entire episode honestly). She's not okay being in the house with him, but can't open up to him. I'm over this girl. I need her to get her emotions in check, and remember what she's there for!

The first trailer for the upcoming reboot of Fantastic Four was released today, and it looks like it's going to be a good one!

The film, set to be released August 7, stars Michael B. Jordan as The Human Torch/Johnny Storm, Kate Mara as The Invisible Woman/Sue Storm, Miles Teller as Mister Fantastic/Reed Richards, and Jamie Bell as The Thing/Ben Grimm. The villain in the reboot will be Victor Domashev/Dr. Doom, portrayed by actor Toby Kebbell.

The trailer was very vague in terms of the actual plot, but I'm sure another trailer will come out soon that explains a little more of what we can expect. I'm going to see this for the action, of course, but more specifically for Michael B. Jordan!!!

Check out the trailer below!

What do you think of the trailer? Will you be going to see Fantastic Four in theaters?

Today on The Spotlight, we have pop-R&B singer Kendra J! Kendra began singing at the age of five when she sang karaoke for the first time. Around the age of seven, she began singing on the children’s choir at church. “I knew music was something I wanted to pursue in elementary school,” Kendra admitted. “I loved singing for different ceremonies and assemblies. It made me so happy and I knew then because of the feeling of completion and peace that I experienced in those times that singing was what I wanted to do.”

Being from Washington, D.C., Kendra was inspired to be honest and in touch with her emotions, especially when it came to her music. “I didn't have the ideal childhood but I learned to adapt and I started expressing myself with my words. My words were my escape and they still are,” the singer said. “My music/lyrics are definitely a reflection of me. It's my soul that you hear when you hear one of my songs.” Inspired by artists like Amy Winehouse (who inspired her to push the limits as a songwriter) and Guns N’ Roses (who made her fall in love with rock music), Kendra’s musical tastes are very eclectic. It’s great to love a variety of genres, especially for an artist to use those inspirations in his or her own music.

Currently, the singer is working on putting together a great EP for listeners. It’s still in the beginning stages, but Kendra is taking her time to create a project that everyone will love. “I'm trying to make sure the songs and the music as a whole are on point,” she said. “I'm doing something totally different and unexpected and because of that I don't want to rush anything. Once it's done I know the world will love the movement.”

In terms of what sets her apart from the pack, Kendra believes it’s her honest lyrics and sound that makes her stand out. “I believe in my craft and the artistry so it’s bound to be a success,” she said. In the future, she would love to take home a few Grammys, travel the world and sell out shows. “However, most importantly I want to have had inspired people to go after whatever it is they dream of doing, no matter how big or small it may seem,” Kendra admitted. “I aspire to inspire because that's what's in my heart to do.”

You can visit Kendra’s official website and listen to more of her music on SoundCloud. You can also connect with her on Instagram and Twitter!
Last night's episode of The Game was GOOD. Picking up from the two-episode season 8 premiere, Perez Hilton does an expose on what happened at the wedding between Chardonnay and Jason. Tasha laughs as she watches, but Chardonnay is obviously upset at it all. She's not used to being in the spotlight like this, and feels attacked and slandered. Tasha proposes getting her truth out there and then launching her brand, and leaves Kyra with Tee Tee to get everything together.

Meanwhile, Jason, still staying at Malik's, tries to work with Blue on plays to make him better on the field. Malik is obviously bitter, changing the channel on the TV as the two try to work from the screen. Jason then gets a call from his divorce lawyer that Chardonnay gets to stay in the house as long as she wants, and is basically getting a lot from the divorce. He tries to argue it, but come one Jason. You can't destroy your marriage and think that you're going to walk away scot-free! When Keira comes by to take Blue to a Rick Ross concert. Jason, obviously upset at what's going on in his own life, basically tells Blue that he sucks too bad to be having any fun right now. True, but why so harsh Jason?

Later, Chardonnay goes on Perez TV to set the record straight. However, Perez comes back with some hard questions, after Chardonnay admits that Jason wanted to renew their vows AFTER he kissed Kelly. Perez calls Chardonnay out for not even really knowing what happened between Kelly and Jason. It's very dramatic, but still funny!

Meanwhile, at Sabers practice, Jason rides Blue really hard about his performance, but it's really about the divorce. The two eventually go back and forth arguing, with Blue telling Jason that his life is messed up, and that he lost both Chardonnay and Kelly in less than five minutes. Jason tells Blue that Blue is so pressed to go to all these events like a groupie and even calls Keira semi-famous, which gets Blue riled up, calling him out for being a coward. Jason then tells him that he'll still be here to coach "the next hue of Blue" after Blue's gone. However, he knows deep down Blue is right. He's taking his problems out on Blue and that's not right. Blue does need to get it together, though.

Later, Blue is actually focused on his work, but Keira convinces him to go to a party. She jokingly calls him a "groupie," which makes him think about his priorities. Meanwhile, Chardonnay goes over to Malik's to surprisingly talk to Jason. She wants answers. She had his back and really took care of him, and didn't deserve what he did. He admits he was a coward, and that she is a good woman. He will always regret losing her, but she doesn't believe him. Jason is finally honest that it was the kiss between him and Kelly, and her paying off the news guy that wanted to expose his steroid use, that reminded him that she "really knew how to have his back." Jason admits that Chardonnay is not the right woman for him, which is what she needed to hear. That's still crazy to me, though. I actually thought that Chardonnay was a good match for Jason, because she gave him the honest truth that he needed to hear a lot of times. I guess the writers will somehow reconnect him with Kelly, but I'm not feeling it.

By the end of the episode, Blue is on the field nice and early, practicing to get better. Jason walks over to him, and, without words, they both put everything behind them and get ready to work. Meanwhile, Tee Tee drops off Kyra after apparently watching her for the past few days, and the baby starts crying. Tasha has been neglecting her baby, and doesn't know how to settle her. She even calls Malik to watch her, seemingly overwhelmed. I can only imagine what she's going to do from here.

Loving Battle of the Exes II! Picking up from last week, the house goes out to party. CT comes back home to check up on Diem. One of the producers tells CT that Diem was feeling pretty sick, and she's been taken to the hospital. He automatically goes into panic mode, and wants to meet her there, even though he's been drinking. The producers instead let Diem and CT talk on the phone, and she sounds a lot better. Diem comes back to the house, and lays in bed with CT.

The next morning, Diem is sick again, with the house is really worried about her. Production takes her back to the hospital. CT makes her a care package, and everyone signs the box with well wishes. Later, however, TJ announces that Diem's medical issues will keep her from continuing the game, and CT has to go home as well. At this point, CT doesn't even care. He just wants to be with Diem. Diem's words in her last confessional acknowledges the fact that that she is so grateful that CT is always in her corner. She refused to quit, and wanted to live life to the fullest. I found myself tearing up, knowing how it all ends. RIP Diem.

The next day, TJ presents the third challenge of the game, "On Again/Off Again." There's giant 30 foot high zipline over water that will spin the competitors out of control. After they fall into the water, they will swim around a buoy to make it to land and ring the bell. Obviously, the closer you drop to the buoy, the easier it will be. The team with the slowest time goes straight to the Dome, while the team with the fastest time will become the Power Couple. Nany and Bananas, as the last Power Couple, got to pick the order. It's a serious struggle, especially for the girls, to hold on for long, with a lot of them having to swim a pretty long ways. However, in the end, the losing team is Simone and John who will automatically go to the Dome. The winning team taking Power Couple is Jordan and Sarah, which I am happy about because I actually think they make a pretty great team.

Saran and Jordan speak to the top two teams, Nany and Bananas as well as Wes and Theresa. Sarah decides they should play both sides against each other to eventually see both teams go head to head. Right now, they'll play it cool, but the end game is to get rid of at least one of them. Jordan, of course, would love to see Bananas in the Final since they're rivals, but it's not about ego. It's about the money! At deliberation, Sarah and Jordan pick Brittany and Adam to face John and Simone. It's just easy to get rid of the rookies, since they have yet to prove themselves and no one knows or cares about them that much to keep them around, honestly.

At the Dome, TJ announces that no couple will replace CT and Diem, but there will still be an elimination. The game of the night is "He Said, She Said," which is an eating competition where you will bet on how much your partner can eat in 3 minutes. The opposing team member will then up the bet by how much he or she believes their partner can eat. Once someone calls it, the partner has to eat that much food in three minutes. If you finish, you get a point. If you don't, your opponent gets the point. Adam eats 7 brownies, which Brittany bet for him, winning a point for them, but Brittany couldn't finish the 13 Yucca (similar to potato) sticks that Adam bet, giving Simone and John a point. The last item is patacones (fried platain slices), which Simone bets that John can eat. However, he takes his nice sweet time with it, and loses, sending John and Simone home. There was no heart. There was no urgency. Therefore, I wasn't upset to see them go.

Later, Adam and Brittany celebrate their win at the bar, and end up making out! I can only imagine where their relationship is going to go from here!

I have the first official spotlight of 2015 for the blog! I have at least three other great artists lined up that I’m working to get up within the next week or so, so be on the lookout! If you are or represent an upcoming musical artist, producer, designer, etc., and would like to be featured on The Spotlight, please visit our Features/Submissions page for more information!

Today, we have Flexy the Artist! Raised in St. Louis, Missouri, this songwriter-singer grew up around music, as his parents and grandparents were all musicians themselves. At home, he listened to jazz and R&B artists, as well as the late great Michael Jackson, who he notes as one of his biggest inspirations. During his freshman year of college, one of his fraternity brothers sent him a goofy freestyle as a joke, and he decided to record one himself. “People liked it. It was really bad,” Flexy joked. “I’ve always had a great voice, at least, so it was easy to listen to, but ever since then, I’ve been going strong.” He began taking his music and career seriously, recording and performing at various shows.

Inspired by Michael Jackson, Usher, Bruno Mars, and Ludacris, Flexy effortlessly blends pop, hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music to create his own standout sound. The singer released his EP, Route 63, in April 2014. “Frustration with my music situation living in Missouri, balancing school with music, and the people around me who I feel like didn’t understand me inspired the EP,” Flexy admitted. He went down to Louisiana the summer before for an internship to get away and figure out what he wanted to do after school, and ended up writing and arranging 80% of the project. “Route 63 is the direct route between Missouri and Louisiana,” Flexy explained the title. “It’s written in the future, kinda like a view of what I want/what won’t hold me back.”

Two of his favorite tracks on the EP are “Gabby” and “Is It Worth It.” “[I choose] ‘Gabby,’ because it was the most experimental test for me context wise and I had a blast making it,” he said. “‘[And] Is It Worth It’ because it summarizes the entire mindset of people that aim to step out their comfort zone. The song is full of double entendres that can be interpreted by anyone in their own way.” He further explained about Route 63 that “this EP is a three part project written in the future so compared to my other works it may be hard to comprehend but looking at my other works the audience can see and feel exactly who I am.”

Flexy has now relocated to Los Angeles, and is currently working on an EDM track with a producer from Italy, while still promoting Route 63. He feels that his “songwriting, unique voice, genre-blending, great looks (*haha*), and artist transparency.” In terms of his future in the entertainment industry, he wants to be the best as what he does. “I want to be respected by the masses for my craft. I want to be the best ‘me’ possible.”

The Game is definitely bringing the drama this season! Picking up last season's explosive finale, Chardonnay charges out of the church after slapping Jason for saying that he's still in love with ex-wife Kelly at their wedding! He tries to chase behind her, but she speeds off in the wedding car. I mean come on, Jason. You can't say you love your ex-wife, and think she's going to stay! I would've LOVED to be at that wedding though, especially for that slap!

As everyone leaves the church, Malik jokes with Tasha on the phone about the slap Chardonnay gave him. He believes this shows that anything could happen at anytime. He wants to move up his trials right now and play football again, even though Yana already told him . Jason walks up to Kelly, who doesn't know what Jason was thinking! Jason still has feelings for Kelly, but Kelly has moved on apparently! She found her a "muy caliente Latino," but had been keeping it a secret. Now Jason destroyed a good woman and relationship for nothing.

Meanwhile, Blue and Keira head to the airport to go to Vegas to get married. These fools are nowhere near ready for marriage if you ask me. They almost didn't even make it on the plane when the captain says they had to pay for the fuel for the jet! Blue doesn't know what he's talking about, and even calls Mark Cuban (who owns it, I guess), and he lets them know that yes, you have to gas up the plane!

Later, we see Pookie come to Tasha's with healthy food and other things to help out with Baby Kyra and Tasha's recovery. At that moment, Chardonnay calls Tasha and cries about Jason. She feels so played! At that moment, Chardonnay's doorbell rings, and all Tasha and viewers hear is a bunch of scuffling! Though it was implied that it was probably Jason, turns out it's Kelly! She just wanted to apologize, and Tasha manages to come over and break them up. Kelly speaks truth, saying that women needs to stop going after each other off of drama that men brought, but Chardonnay doesn't want to hear it. She wants Kelly to admit that she came back to San Diego, but Kelly denies it, telling Chardonnay to not throw away her marriage to Jason. As she leaves, she tells Tasha that there's even hope with her and Pookie. Tasha keeps it real, saying that babies don't save relationships, Pookie hates Tasha. When things are dead, they're dead. Pookie doesn't want Tasha anymore after the Rick Fox incident, and Tasha has come to terms with that.

Later, the captain catches Blue and Keira coming out of the bathroom after having sex. Apparently, it turns out that the flight attendant Marie is a huge fan of Keira and her movie Baggers. Keira reveals that she's going to Miami in the summer to shoot a new Woody Allen movie, which takes Blue by surprise. He clearly thought they had gotten past that, and that Keira was going to stay, but obviously not.

Meanwhile, Malik goes over to Yana's with a beautiful bracelet and massage balls. She doesn't want to accept his apology for getting mad at her like he did. However, Malik just got caught up in wanting to get back in the game. Yana still won't sign the medical release, though, even saying that she loves him so much that she's willing to risk losing him if it means he'll heal properly. Malik gets over it though, and they spend the night together.

At Tasha's, Kelly is around the baby with Pookie. She reveals she's heading out of town, and even lied to Jason about dating someone else just to get away from this drama. Now Tasha has to clean up this whole mess. Pookie later reveals that he changed the baby's last name to his, as he is indeed the father to her child. Now, they have to figure out how they are going to co-parent. Tasha thinks now that there's hope, but there's not. Pookie also announces that he wants to take Kyra to live in Richmond, which Tasha refuses to accept. They get into an argument, and now it's clear that the lawyers will have to get involved in terms of custody agreements.

That night, at Yana's, Malik sneaks out of bed and goes through Yana's things. He finds her credit card and looks at the back, implying that he's going to forge her signature on his medical release forms. I really can't stand Malik sometimes. He's so impatient to get back to his career, that he's going to mess up what seems like one of the best things to ever happen to him because of this!

Meanwhile, Chardonnay plays Emeli Sande's "Clown," and takes a deep look at herself in the mirror, taking off the wedding dress for a bath, but looking so broken. However, the next morning, it's like she had an epiphany. In a real Bernadette from Waiting To Exhale moment, Chardonnay is selling all of Jason's stuff for cheap. Everything else she plans to burn up. However, Tasha brings over a Sunbeam and image consultant Dionne to try to get Chardonnay back on track.

At Malik's house, Tee Tee calls him out for forging Yana's signature, but Malik doesn't want to hear it. Jason is all in his feelings drinking, and Malik gets real with him. He doesn't think that Jason and Chardonnay were never going to have a future, because Jason has never really wanted black women. He feels like Chardonnay bullied him into quitting football and she told him he should confess about his steroid use. Jason feels like the love he has for her overshadows all of that, which it should.

On the plane, the flight attendant Marie and Keira are having a ball, and Blue is upset. Before they even have the chance to take off, Blue confronts Keira about going to Miami for this movie. He tells her that he proposed to her, and wants his wife at home. Keira figures out that he basically proposed to her so she would pass on the movie. However, Keira's not that kind of girl. She wants to follow her dreams, and Blue honestly should support her. They begin arguing and even throw cookies at each other. When one hits the captain, the captain throws them off the plane! No Vegas marriage for them...which is a good thing!

At Chardonnay's, Tasha reveals that Chardonnay needs to be smarter and expand her brand. Dionne and Tasha throw ideas around about how Chardonnay can use this negative situation to help women and make money--books, motivational tours, etc. Maybe a little unrealistic, but it definitely gets Chardonnay thinking.

Back at their apartment, Blue and Keira are ignoring each other, even though they're 10 feet away. Blue texts Keira to break the ice, admitting he doesn't want to be alone. Keira's his family, and he does want to marry her. However, Keira texts that she needs to be able to follow her dreams too. Blue then suggests a compromise--they'll have a normal engagement instead of rushing to get married, and Keira can still go to Miami for her movie and pursue her dream.

The next day before Malik's trials, the owner of the Sabers asks Jason to come back as a special wide receivers consultant for Blue. Blue has never performed consistently, but they built their entire offense and defense around him, which Jason uses to get himself an actual coaching position. Malik comes out for his trials like a only a fool can, making it a huge spectacle with a DJ, dancers, and a stage. Yana shows up and almosts busts his bubble, but she lets him attempt to show off his skills surprisingly. After a few good passes, however Malik's arm starts acting up, and he ends up overthrowing a lot. He's clearly not ready, and, needless to say, everyone ends up passing on him. Yana also leaves him, feeling like he doesn't know how to love anything else but football. I wouldn't blame her. Malik selfishly put her career and reputation at risk. I understand being passionate about what you do, but there's so much more to life. Malik has yet to realize that.

At the end of the episode, Pookie is able to get into Tasha's house even with bodyguard Bibs around. Tasha calls him petty for wanting to take their daughter. He apologizes, but he wants to be around his child. He just wants to share the daughter that he had with her. He clearly loves that little girl, and just wants to be in her life. After hearing him out, Tasha watches as he bonds with Kyra.

Meanwhile, Jason dances at Malik's house, celebrating his new job, while Malik soaks in the hot tub in despair. All of Jason's celebrating comes to a halt when Chardonnay knocks on the door, and delivers divorce papers AND an emotional cruelty lawsuit, wanting to take everything he has to pay for her brand! She even takes his champagne! WHAT?!

I don't know how this season is going to go, but I definitely will be watching! Be sure to check out new episodes of The Game now on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET only on BET!

The Challenge: Battle of the Exes is heating up! Picking up from last week's surprising premiere, the house goes out partying Panama style! However, exes are watching each other flirting with other people, and it's rather awkward and annoying. Averey especially gets upset over Johnny's previous hookup with Nany, but I need her to build a bridge and get over it. Zach and Jenna seem to have a thing starting as well, which hurts Jonna.

The next day, T.J. introduces the second challenge, "Rounding The Bases." There's a baseball field, and the goal is to score a home run with your ex (T.J.'s words, not mine *laughs*)! At each base, there is a different task for the competitors. The last three teams at each base will be eliminated from the challenge, while the last place team at the first base will go straight to the Dome.

The first base challenges the teams to be able to suck and blow (eek). There are 12 bamboo lanes, and the teams have to take a card, hold it between their lips, and keep suction between them to keep the card up. You have to get around poles as well, with the card still on someone's lips, and get to the finish line. If you drop the card, you have to start over. It's a rough challenge, with a few accidental kisses, but pretty funny to watch. The very last team to finish was Johnny and Averey, and they will be going right to the Dome.

The next task involves balls and bats. The girls will be on one side of a baseball contraption, and the guys on the other. The girls have to unscrew a bat,  and the guys have to unscrew two baseballs. Another three teams got dropped, including Sarah and Jordan, who were at a slight disadvantage since Jordan only has one full functioning hand. At the third base, each station  has its own lock and combination, and the teams have to use their  to lap up peanut butter to reveal the combination. I like peanut butter and all, but that's crazy and incredibly unhygienic! This task drops another three teams, leaving vets Nany and Bananas, Wes and Theresa, and CT and Diem. Each of them get a 30 foot limpy pole, with one being able to fit snugly into the other. Standing 60 feet away from each other, it's the goal to ram the poles together, popping a cork in one of the poles. The first to finish will win the game. It was close, but Nany and Bananas came out on top, winning Power Couple, and getting to send another team into the Dome.

Back at the house, Nany and Bananas deliberate who they'll pick over dinner. Nany wants to throw in Wes and Theresa, but Bananas feel like it's too big of a risk right now, especially since more than likely Wes and Theresa would come back.. Nany, most times from what I've seen in the past, lets her personal feelings dictate how she acts in the game, You can't let your personal feelings get in the way. Bananas thinks that Nany should talk things through with Theresa. They try to speak to both Wes and Theresa, but Nany gets nowhere with Theresa, who has been talking about Nany behind her back...a lot. Theresa fakes to be concerned about Nany's "promiscuous" ways, but she needs to just mind her own business. Nany is a grown woman and can do what she wants. As shady as Theresa is, I'm surprised people even listen to her

Nany and Bananas do make a decision of who will face Averey and Johnny in the Dome, sending in Tom and Hailey since they're rookies. It's too early to throw in vets, especially seasoned vets like Wes and Theresa, who would probably win. (Side note: The loser of tonight's dome will face Dustin and Jessica in the Battle of the Exiled!)

At the Dome, Averey and Johnny face Tom and Hailey in "Banded Together" Each team starts on one side, tied by a rubber band around a post. You will race together to have both players on the team get to a bar at the other end and hold it for five seconds. It's hard on the body, but it's about digging deep and pushing forward. Inch by inch, Johnny and Averey make it happen, sending Tom and Hailey home (well, really to Exile). It definitely gives Johnny and Averey some much needed momentum. I also found out that Tom and Hailey faced Dustin and Jessica in Battle of the Exiled, and Dustin and Jessica won! No telling what will happen next week, or if/when Dustin and Jessica will be back.

Back at the house, Diem hasn't been feeling well, which makes me so sad, knowing that she's gone now. CT was right by her side in the house, telling her to rest up. He even wants to stay home with her, but she tells him to go out and have fun, which CT knows is really her telling him to give her space. Meanwhile, Nany comes up to Averey to apologize about Johnny. Neither of them know each other, but Averey is not trying to be cool with her because of it, Meanwhile, to "get back at Zach" it seems, Jonna kisses Jay. Bye girl. Zach doesn't care.

A while back, I did a mixtape review for God's Elect for Agape Soul TV, another website I wrote for in the past. I was instantly impressed and moved by this rapper's positive and inspirational lyrics. Now God's Elect has come with a new music video for his song, "Single Fathers," featuring the soulful sounds of singer Doneta Dawson.

The song, as the title states, is a dedication to single fathers who are actually active in their kids' lives. God's Elect is open about the struggles of a single dad, the importance of the entire family working together to remain strong, and reminds listeners to look to God for guidance.

Check out the video below!

\
I really love this song! I salute both mothers and fathers that are taking care of their children and setting great examples for them, especially those doing it on their own. However, I really love seeing fathers with their children. I think it's important to have a strong male figure in your life, and this video celebrates those dads out there that are doing right by their kids.
You can learn more about God's Elect on ChristMusiq.net, as well as connect with him on Twitter and Instagram

Congratulations are in order! Zooey Deschanel is pregnant!

The actress' rep confirmed the news to PEOPLE that Zooey is expecting her first child with boyfriend Jacob Pechenik this summer.“Jacob and I are over the moon. We are so excited to meet our little one,” Zooey said.

What's even better is that Zooey's own sister Emily Deschanel (Bones) is also pregnant! Those babies will have plenty of fun together when they get here.

Aww congrats to them and their families!

Last night, I had the opportunity to see Selma, which chronicled Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s leadership alongside other notable leaders and activists during the Civil Rights Movement, specifically during the march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery. Shown in limited release starting Christmas, the movie was officially released January 9th. From watching, it's clear why this film earned four Golden Globe nominations, which airs tonight by the way (and probably soon some Oscar noms as well)!

Directed by Ava DuVernay, the film was a superb look at this important piece of not only African-American history, but American history in general. Selma stars British actor David Oyelowo as Dr. King, who truly BECAME this man, from his voice to demeanor. That, to me, is always the mark of a true actor--to be able to become a character so much so that you never really notice the actor playing him or her. British actress Carmen Ejogo played Dr. King's wife, Coretta Scott King, and portrayed Coretta's grace and strength incredibly as well.

Without giving too much away, though many of us already have learned the facts about this
movement, the film depicts Dr. King and other leaders like Ralph Abernathy, James Bevel, John LewisHosea Williams, and other members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in their efforts in Selma to break down barriers, specifically blacks being able to vote to make difference in their community and have justice served against discrimination, especially in the South. Though the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, King still pressed him about the voting issue, seeing as though no change could really be made without blacks being able to make their voices heard. It was a huge fight, with the people of Selma, along with other supporters black and white, eventually marching miles to Montgomery, Alabama to have their voices heard (in spite of two failed attempts, one ending in many beaten and bruised by police). The film ended with President Johnson finally sending the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to Congress, and it was passed and signed into law.

I loved that the movie showed Dr. King as a strong leader, but also showed that he was human. He had his imperfections, like his recorded infidelities and damaged relationship with Coretta, as well as his doubts in terms of his leadership and legacy. Viewers see that the movement, while so very vital to this country, had a heavy impact on Dr. King's personal life. He was arrested and thrown in jail many times, and threatened countless occasions over the phone, before his assassination (which, from the movie, he seemed to know was coming). The FBI, under the leader of J. Edgar Hoover, even wired the man's house to not only figure out the plans of the movement, but also to find evidence to pit Dr. King and Coretta against each other (like with the recorded infidelity), so that Dr. King would maybe decide to give up to focus on saving his family. However, his sacrifices, along with so many others, were, obviously, not in vain.

There were many small moments as well that had incredible impact and and really shook me. For example, the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church which killed four little girls on September 15, 1963. It was so sudden and unexpected in the film, as it was that very day, that it threw me emotionally for a bit especially since it happened so early in the film. There was also a small cameo from Oprah Winfrey, who played Annie Lee Cooper, known for punching Selma Sheriff Jim Clark during a protest in front of the Selma Courthouse. Afterwards, she was taken down and beaten severely. There was another moment that resonated with me, when activist Jimmie Lee Jackson was shot and killed after participating in a peaceful protest. After doing my research, I found that the state trooper who killed him pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2010, and only served six months in prison. All of these moments reminded me what a huge sacrifice all of those who participated in the Civil Rights Movement really made, even though some did not live to see the positive end result.

I won't turn my review into a preaching moment, but my love and appreciation of historical movies has grown immensely as I have gotten older, specifically in terms of African-American history. As a proud black woman, I always love seeing movies that depict the Civil Rights Movement, the good, the bad, and the disgustingly ugly, because it reminds me personally that I have a duty to be better and do more than those who came before me. Why? Because I have the opportunity to, and so many others didn't. At 24, I've been able to do so much that my predecessors probably deemed impossible. Though, especially looking at these past few years, we clearly don't live in a "post-racial" society, and have a long way to go, I still know that America has come a long way.

Go see this movie! Though part of me wishes that the movie focused beyond mostly Dr. King, it was still so powerful and inspiring. The cinematography is absolutely incredible, to the point where you feel like you are right in Selma then. Every scene, especially the negative, is right in your face. It really moved me. The cast, which also included Tom Wilkinson, Tim Roth, Common, Lorraine Toussant, Tessa Thompson, and more, was remarkable as a whole. Definitely a movie I want in my collection when it comes out later in the year!

RATING:  (five out of five stars)
