After the end of hit show The Game, Brandy is back on BET with her new show, Zoe Ever After! Brandy stars as Zoe Moon, the owner of Zoe Moon Cosmetics, who is getting back into the swing of things trying to move on from her soon-to-be ex-husband, celebrity boxer Gemini Moon (Dorian Missick)! Gemini cheated on her, so she chose to move on to focus on herself and her own happiness. Balancing co-parenting, dating, and a business will be challenging for Zoe, but I'm definitely interested  to see how this show unfolds. I'll be watching and recapping all season!

Check out my recap of the premiere below!

At the beginning of the episode, Zoe comes from home from a special date with a guy named Sean, who works on Wall Street and is ready to help her move on from her husband. As they ride of the elevator up to Zoe's condo, the two kiss on the elevator. However, as the doors open, Xavier and Gemini are in the living room The doorman, Amir, who is a fan of Gemini, "neglected" to tell her that Gemini was there. When Sean himself starts obsessing over Gemini, Zoe promptly kicks him out. Afterwards, Gemini states he plans to buy Xavier new stuff for their weekend together, though Zoe objects. With co-parenting, they have to be on the same page, and Zoe doesn't feel like Xavier needs a bunch of material things. In spite of their tension, though, it's clear that they still have a soft spot for each other! Zoe and Gemini have been separated for a year, but neither of them will sign the divorce papers!

The next day, at Zoe's cosmetic company, Zoe's publicist Pearl (Haneefah Wood) tries Tinder to find her a guy, with the assistance of Zoe's assistant Valente (Tory Devon Smith). When Zoe arrives, Pearl discusses the company's recent pop-up show, and reveals that Lupita Nyong'o's makeup artist was there and liked the products. It's possible that Lupita could be the new face of Zoe Moon Cosmetics!

At that moment, Xavier comes in with Gemini, who reminds Zoe of a parent-teacher's conference they have that morning. Valente completely forgot  that her assistant forgot to tell her about it. As they walk to the elevator, Gemini notices that it's extremely hot in the building and tells Xavier to remind him to have it fixed. Xavier records a note on his new iPhone that Gemini bought him which Zoe confronts him about in the elevator after telling Xavier to sit down. At the end of the day, he's only 8! What does he need with a brand new iPhone?! After they get off the elevator, they realize that Xavier has mysteriously disappeared! They do eventually find him, but arrive to the conference late. Zoe awkwardly explains to the teacher what happened and apologizes. However, Xavier's teacher states that boys often act out when their fathers aren't in the home, knowing that Zoe and Gemini are going through a break up. Though Gemini may not be living with Xavier anymore, it's clear that he makes time for his son. Of course, Gemini gets offended and walks out.

Meanwhile, back at the office, Pearl stresses about texting a guy she found on Tinder. Valente tells Pearl to text from the heart. Instead of playing it cool though, she asks the guy randomly what he's doing on November 14, which is the day she plans to get married at the Plaza! What?! Can you get to know this guy first before you plan out an entire lifetime in your head??? HA!

When Zoe gets back, she realizes that there is a bunch of construction going on to fix the A/C. It pisses her off because she knows it was nobody but Gemini who ordered this. Miguel Maldonado (Ignacio Serricho) is the head of the contracting firm, and he states that she has more issues than she thought, including plumbing issues and mold. However, Zoe firmly states that she is the owner and didn't authorize all this work. Miguel tells her that the place is a mess, and he's just doing his job. If she has an issue with that, she needs to take it up with Gemini. There seems to be a hint of hidden interest between the two, so I wouldn't be surprised if they hook up later in the season. Zoe plans to go OFF on Gemini tonight for all of this, though.

When she gets home, Zoe sees India Arie standing in her living room, and the singer performs her hit "Ready For Love." Gemini planned this grand gesture to try to butter her up, knowing that she'd be upset. She sees right through it, but his words do end up softening her heart a bit. He takes her to the balcony, where he has 20 doves released for every year they were together. Gemini says that he could have never achieved any of their dreams without her. They kiss, before they are interrupted by Gemini's phone. Zoe admits to him that she felt slighted and invisible in their relationship, and now, with her cosmetics company, she feels like she has purpose.

While she's saying all of this though, Gemini is texting another girl, proving that he hasn't changed one bit. The way he treated her was not okay, and she refuses to go back to that. She pulls out the divorce papers and signs them, which angers him. However, he signs them too, believing that she won't make it without him. "I guess we'll see," Zoe says. Xavier sees all of this, and storms off, mad at his mom. He's upset about what's going on, and it's understandable. Zoe says she's taking a breather from his dad to feel better about herself. However, that doesn't mean that Xavier's not important to Zoe and Gemini. Xavier, though, is worried more about who will take care of her, and Zoe says that they will take care of each other!

Though there was a major overuse of the laugh track, this is a cute, decent show. I love some Brandy, so it's great to see her on TV again. I'm really interested in the storyline itself, so I'm excited to see what BET brings to the table.

Check out all new episodes of Zoe Ever After on Tuesdays at 10 p.m only on BET!

black panther marvel phase iii Ryan Coogler Confirmed as Marvels Black Panther Director

Marvel's Black Panther officially has a director!

According to Screen Rant the chosen one to take on the movie is director Ryan Coogler!  The 29-year-old director has already directed successful films Fruitvale Station and Creed, which both starred and have helped build the resume of Michael B. Jordan.

Marvel was also in talks with F. Gary Gray and Ava DuVernay as well for the director position before deciding on Coogler.

The head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige,  said this movie is important because "not only do you get an unbelievable lead character, but you also get all of Wakanda which is a whole new setting and culture to explore.” As Marvel's first stand-alone movie with a black superhero as its lead, it will be important to the franchise that the movie is a success. However, for fans of the Marvel franchise, he won't be their first black superhero lead as this year we'll also get Luke Cage on Netflix, who was also a featured character in last year's Jessica Jones.

Stay tuned to The Spotlight for more details and look out for Black Panther to hit theaters in February 2018!

Justin Timberlake is set to serve as executive producer for the music for upcoming DreamWorks Animation comedy, Trolls!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the singer/songwriter will write and perform original songs for the movie, as well as oversee creative direction for the film's music. In addition, he will also voice one of the characters, named Branch, who is described as an "hilariously hardcore survivalist who hides his surprising true colors."

“I have always envisioned bringing the two worlds of film and music together for one epic event [and] couldn’t be more excited that they will collide in DreamWorks’ Trolls," Justin said. "This film is very special, the music is going to be very special and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it all.”

“Justin is an amazingly versatile artist and producer whose unprecedented creative talents provide a unique voice and sound for our movie,” said DreamWorks Animation’s co-presidents of feature animation Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria in a statement. “Trolls is a comedy with fantastic music at its core and we can’t think of a more perfect artist to elevate this soundtrack to incredible heights.”

Directed by Mike Mitchell and co-directed by Walt Dohrn, the comedy also stars Anna Kendrick as Princess Poppy, who heads off on a great adventure with Branch. Fox has set the film for release on Nov. 4, 2016.

This is definitely a great move for JT, who is a talented musician and actor. I can't wait to see what he brings to the table (yes, I'm a big kid so I'll be watching!)

We have another great spotlight today, our first feature of 2016! As always, if you or your client is interested in being featured, please visit our Features/Submissions page for more info!

Today, we have singer/songwriter, actress, AND model, Kristinia DeBarge! The star opened up to us about her start in music as a part of the famous DeBarge clan, her own aspirations for her career, and her new upcoming show on weTV, Growing Up Hip Hop!

Growing up as a part of the famous DeBarge family R&B lineage, Kristinia noted that there is "never a dull moment" with her family. "My family, they're not only talented, but they're very funny, awesome great human beings," she said. Having that strong background in music, Kristinia knew that she wanted to sing at the young age of 3, and began taking her craft seriously at 12. "I kind of hid it from my dad [James DeBarge]," she laughed, not telling him that she had that talent and passion for singing until that time. "He was like, 'Oh my gosh! All right, let's get you in the studio!'" They stayed up until 4:30 in the morning writing and recording the song, and Kristinia was committed to the process even at that age. "He was kind of testing me to see how bad I really wanted to do it," she stated. Clearly she proved herself!

After meeting Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds at 14 and spending years after developing her voice and writing skills, Kristinia signed a record deal with Sodapop/Island Def Jam at 19! She dropped her debut album,  Exposed, in 2009, which debuted at number 23 on Billboard's Top 200. The project spawned successful singles like "Goodbye," "Sabotage," and "Future Love (Remix)" feat. Pitbull and received rave reviews from critics and listeners alike! Kristinia then went on to open for Britney Spears' 2009 The Circus World Tour, snagged a partnership with clothing retailer Wet Seal, and received several award nominations for her work!

After releasing some new music here and there over the past few years, Kristinia  is actually putting out an EP on January 7, entitled Thinkin' Out LoudShe also plans to drop a mixtape on her birthday, March 8! "I'm excited to show everybody my new sound!" Kristinia said enthusiastically. Some of the music, like the track "Church" below, has been previously released, but she also has a few new tracks for listeners to check out as well! "Church," a track that I personally gravitated to, is a song that speaks of Kristinia's own experiences with her career thus far. "People probably think I'm talking about a [romantic] relationship, but it's really my relationship with the music industry," she admitted. "It's been a lot of ups and downs, a lot of people telling me 'no," and a lot of pressure, so that's really what I'm talking about." The song shows a relentless Kristinia determined to come out on top regardless of what happens!

The same day of the EP release, weTV will air its new show, Growing Up Hip Hop, which features Kristinia, Romeo Miller, Angela Simmons, Damon "Boogie Dash" Jr., TJ Mizell, and Egypt Criss. All of them are the sons and daughters of hip hop legends, looking to make their own way! "It's a very vulnerable, emotional story that I tell," the artist admitted of the show. "You'll definitely see me open up about the DeBarge side of my family, and my music." Check out a sneak peak for the show below!

In addition to her music and the show, Kristinia is working on new acting ventures for the new year! She made her acting debut in Christmas in Compton (2012), which starred Keith David, Omar Gooding, Eric Roberts, and Sheryl Lee Ralph, and has starred in other films including School Dance and The Mint. However, she's more committed to her music right now. "I kind of promised myself that I was going to focus more on my music than ever right now," she stated. "I just really want to get back out there again. I want people to see that I haven't gone away, and that I am dedicated to it. It's my first love!"
Kristinia believes that listeners will reconnect with her and her music because she is relatable, admitting that she is a normal 25-year-old that enjoys life, and that has gone through some of the same things as other people. She uses her life experiences in her music, letting people into the good, bad, and ugly scenes she's gone through. "I think sometimes people misconstrue because I've done a lot of great things already in my career," she said. "They don't realize that I've struggled in a lot of different areas in my life." Kristinia's dealt with issues within her family concerning drugs and financial problems, but she's been able to bounce back! "I've become a better person because of it, and I was humbled because of that," the singer stated. "People can relate to that, and people aren't going to [think] 'Oh, things were handed to her because of her last name [or] because she had this much amount of success.'"

In the future, Kristinia, of course, she wants to be successful in music and film-- win awards, tour, have movies out, and create a bunch of great albums. However there's so much more she would like to do beyond just music. She's developing a makeup line, which she hopes to see in SephoraTarget, and other retailers down the road. The singer also opened up about her desire to start an anti-bullying foundation to help and inspire kids that are being bullied themselves, and put a stop to it. "I was bullied as a little girl, and so it's something that is really close to my heart," she admitted. The artist would like to see proceeds go back into the arts programs at various schools, since many schools are lacking supplies, instruments, teachers, and money in general in the arts. Kristinia is also working with her boyfriend to develop a water company to assist third world countries to provide them with clean water. "I just want to help people and be able to inspire others," Kristinia admitted.
Not only is Kristinia talented, but she seemed like a sweet, giving spirit from my interview with her! We wish her well!

You can watch Kristinia on Growing Up Hip Hop, which premieres on January 7 on weTV at 10 p.m ET. You can also check out more from her on her official website, SoundCloud, and YouTube. Be sure to connect with her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as well!

Jaden Smith has been announced as the newest face of Louis Vuitton!

According to PEOPLE, the brand's creative director, Nicholas Ghesquiere, shared his latest ad campaign for LV's Spring/Summer 2016 collections, which featured Jaden rocking women wear!

Jaden has always been unique to say the least when it comes to his style (who can really forget the Batman costume at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding?!). So I'm not surprised by this move, or that he's rocking a skirt, since he's done it before. I actually applaud the fact that he doesn't care what people say or think. Style is subjective, and he proudly does his own thing. This is a great chance for him to showcase that. Kudos to him!
